It's quite a nice place. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Also its location is very convinient to go to anywhere for sightseeing.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The air-conditioner is a little bit noisy...^^

Conducive hotel and nice location
Locatio is good. With many shopping and outlets around.
7.7
Never get lost as the location is well sited around prominent shooping centres. Rather safe to cross the street as the roads around it are all one way only. The deluxe room is big and comes with high ceiling. The window view is generous but not insulated enough to block the noise from the busy roads outside. Breakfast is good and should be sufficient for most travelers.

Hotel with Colonial style, good service
relatively quiet although very central
7.7
big rooms, bathroom is working, but old tiles - not adequate to a 4 star hotel. No swimming pool, therefore not for relaxing. But if you like colonial style hotels this Hotel and the Grand Hotel are best choices!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
within walking distance to main shopping streets (just in front of hotel), notre dame and post office with picture of HCM (3 minutes), unification museum (5 minutes) and Saigon river (7 minutes)

Great location, spacious rooms but dated.
Location, size of rooms, colonial charm
6
I stayed at this hotel for a week for business. You cannot be located more central than this location with shopping, sightseeing and most food places located at 5 - 12 mins walk.
The staff were always courteous, helpful and friendly. The rooms are spacious (one of the biggest standard rooms I have seen). Having said that they are dated and in need of refurbishment - if the hotel management does decide to refurbish they should maintain its colonial charm.
I asked for a quiet room so they gave me one facing the central courtyard which I believe was a good choice as the windows are not double glazed and the ones facing the road would be noisy. There were weddings and functions almost everyday in the courtyard (loud) but they all end by 10pm so it wasn't a bother for me.
The breakfast spread was modest but unfortunately disappointing. The eggs weren't done properly, bad coffee (surprisingly given its Vietnam - known for coffee) and fruit flies over fruit and bread (which the hotel doesn't seem to mind). If they were to only improve the quality of what they are serving, it would make a huge difference.
Having said all that I enjoyed my stay as it served my purpose (for business) and I enjoyed the colonial feel to the hotel (a pleasant change from the usual characterless modern hotels). If you are looking for romance & facilities this is not the hotel for you. I wish the hotel management would refurbish the hotel keeping the colonial charm (perhaps something like the Majestic Malacca, in Malaysia).
Travel tip:
Dong Khoi has great shops and food places (slightly upmarket though), Highlands coffee opp. hotel behind opera house is a good place to relax, Hai Ba Trung has great bakeries and coffee places. For taxis, be sure to know where you are going on a map and ask for meter only - most taxi drivers would try to take you for a ride if you are a foreigner. And count those zeros on the currency notes!

I think that hotel has an attractive design since it is decorated in antique vietnamese style. I think the location is very convenient and attractive for the tourist. However, I do nor eally enjoy the food.
Travel tip:
this hotel strengths are that it has a good location, plus it has a good service. Its decoration is very attractive in antique style. It will be fascinating for travellers to visit such an historical place. I really like the location because it is very convenient for shopping and for business people. I do not really enjoy the food at the hotel. I think it should improve about its food to make the service better.

Ideal place to stay in Ho Chi Minh City
Great location; lots of atmosphere; old world charm; immaculate; very well appointed; excellent breakfasts.
8.7
in a teeming, chaotic city, the continental is a refuge from the noise and clamour. despite not being given the room i had booked - i paid for a higher standard room but was given for three nights a basic room at the back of the hotel, i can't really complain as it was well-appointed enough. it's a gracious old hotel and it's lovely just to walk around it.

Iconic hotel
heritage, breakfast in courtyard, view from balcony
6.3
The Saigon Continental is an icon and i have wanted to stay here since reading Graham Greene's The Quiet American when I was in high school.
It retains its allure, is in a perfect location for business, sightseeing or shopping and having the opportunity to breakfast in the courtyard is a real treat. However, the quality of the food on offer at breakfast is below that of comparably priced hotels and the decor is in dire need of refurbishment.
I live in Singapore and Raffles Hotel is a perfect example of what the Continental could be given a bit of a spruce up!

Good location, but out-dated

The atmosphere still breaths communism of yesteryear. Rooms out-dated. Location is excellent.
