Huge Rooms. Great History. Very Central. Good Price.
No roof top bar ! The nearby Magestic, Rex and Caravelle all have great roof top bars ! Breakfast buffet was filled very very slowly and usually I just gave up waiting !
I stayed here for 6 nights with my wife in November. A great old colonial hotel with lots of history. Huge rooms, very clean and with all the usual amenities one would expect. Friendly staff, a nice bar, a nice massage, and a great overall experience. Good value for money. I recommend it and would stay there again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go for a drink at the rooftop bar of the Rex or the Majestic for a great experience.

Location, location, location! Good breakfast, large rooms and mattresses just right. Free internet (cable) in room.
Bathrooms don't have an exhaust fan, Reception staff don't seem to know basic facts, referring everything to the Business Center.
Located right beside the historic Opera House, a few steps away from the most fashionable, touristy street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh, the Continental exudes an old world charm. The rooms are generously sized, with high ceilings. At the same time, equipped with the latest gadgetry like LCD flat panel TV and broadband services. A good deal in the heart of Saigon.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : For inquiries, the Visitor Center is just one short block away. Spare yourself any confusion. The staff there are VERY friendly and helpful.

architectural of the building and best location
Corridor area at 2nd floor need to be freed from the kitchen exhaust
We have very fast check in/out time and we are able to extend at least 1 hour additional checkout time.
Breakfast at the outdoor area is very pleasant and the surronding building is beautiful.
The location of the hotel is very good as we are able to do our short city seing by walking distance. The view from our room facing to the opera house and big junction add the romantic sense to our stay.
Travel tip : shopping and dine are close to the hotel

very good bbf, the cost of the hotel was not very high but the room was hugh, the biggest i have seen in asia. the bathroom was but dirty and needs new titles but ok, the klight didn't work the first night but that was easily fixed once we told them. the coffee was very good and the fresh bread for bbf was a real treat after travelling around asia and eating sweet bread. i would go back to this hotel as the price was very good but just slightly run down if you don't mind that
Shopping Tip : brand name shops

Excellent position right in the middle of Dong Khoi. History of the French occupation of Saigon. Romantic quality of Graham Green and writers of the time. Very large and spacious rooms. Lovely garden restaurant.
Noisy, smoking allowed in rooms so the smokey smell is always around, doesnt seem to be a non smoking area.
Had great hopes for the Contintental and thought it would be more impressive than it was. When we first were shown our room it was miles down a corridor and when the porter opened the door we were nearly knocked out by the smell or smoke. I complained and got moved to another room not so far away and found that was smelly as well but not quite as bad. I realised later when I found ashtrays in our room and saw people smoking in the foyers and restaurants that they havent banned smoking in hotels like Australia has. They were obliging in changing my room but didnt get what I was upset about. Probably if I had known it was the norm I wouldnt have complained. Also I had asked for twin beds and initially got a double bed, they corrected that as well. Also noise seemed to blast through the hotel. Weddings were often on in the evening and you could hear it right throughout the hotel. Also street events started up very early with a band playing at 0500 in the morning on Sunday and testing beginning at 0400. Not there fault but no buffer for noise. Perhaps it is trading on its history and romantic name but it would be fabulous with a bit of a facelift, getting a bit tired. Breakfast nice and staff friendly mostly.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go to the markets close but near Le Loi street very well organised and colourful. The food section is fabulous. Dong Khoi also is a fabulous street to shop. Have a cocktail on top of the Rex Hotel or the Caravelle. The War Remnants Museum is a must to put the Vietnam War into perspective and go to the Temple Bar for Lunch or Dinner and another great restaurant for lunch in 160 Dong Pasteur was Quan An Ngan. Saigon is a fabulous city.

Location, interior, garden, breakfast, doorman.
Front desk not very helpful, bathroom a bit old.
We had a junior suite that was very nice and comfortable, the bathroom could have been a bit better. Some staff at the hotel was very nice and helpful, although the front desk wasn't quite so.

The staff at the welcome desk and the doorman were very polite and efficient.
The room was very noisy - no double glazing, the breakfast and restaurant staff were poor.
We found the hotel on the Internet and it seemed like a good deal. they gave us a good welcome and the staff were very helpful... However, the room was on the the 3rd floor and was right next to the road, it was very noisy as the windows were very old and no double glazing. The curtains were also very thin and the sunlight also didn't help trying to have a bit of a lie in. The room was very dated, a bit like my grand mothers house and in serious need of updating. We went for a full English breakfast and it was very disappointing, infact our worst in Vietnam, it was cold and my wife found a hair in hers! The staff were more interested in finishing exactly on time rather than providing us with a good dining experience telling us we had 5mins although we actually had 15mins. We also had room service knock on our door at about 8:30 wanting to clean our room when we still in bed, v. Annoying! On a positive note the position of the hotel was handy and on the last day after checking out they let us use there shower facilities after walking round ho chi min all day a getting rather hot and bothered before our flight home in the evening.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Good cheap shopping

better range in restaurant
I liked the hotel because it is old style architecture with high ceilings and wide corridors. The garden setting for breakfast is very plesant without being anything special.
The location of the hotel is convenient with the Opera House, riverside, cathedreal, Post Office, reunification Palace and market all within 300-400 metres.
The only discornant note was the chambermaid knocking on the door at 8.30am to ask if she could make up the room.

The Hotel is centrally located, easy to access major attraction and street walk is safe. Hotel staffs are friendly and service is excellent.
Not all staffs are able to speak English. The pub in the Hotel closed too early, at 11 pm.
Overall, this is the Hotel I love to stay, friendly, old building structure centrally located. I can wake up early and watch the street of Saigon waking up. Rates are very reasonable. I will definitely stay in the Hotel next time I visit Ho Chi Minh City.
Shopping Tip : Near major shopping area. I can steal the afternoon to relax, having my beer in the hotel whilst my wife and friends are busying shopping.

Great central location, lovely old world feel without the sanitised Raffles chain look
the noise from the early morning outdoor musical performances was a shocker - every Saturday and Sunday morning they start setting up from 6:30am by pumping music so loud from huge speakers at the front of the opera house opposite. The band comes on at 7am and plays until 9am. One morning it was a pan pipe type band, the next morning a latino band. The noise level was unbelievably loud but apparently this is a government organised things so nothing you could do about it....
Beautiful old world hotel, slightly scruffy and in need of tlc but lovely all the same. Clean and tidy, courteous staff, fairly simple breakfast but fine. We love HCMC and will definitely be back. We would love to stay in this hotel again however the noise was just too much - see 'cons' - we were absolutely shattered after the weekend so would definitely find a hotel away from the opera house next time.
Restaurant Tip : Zanzibar - great little bar/restaurant about 5 mins walk away. Open all day for fantastic food - spent a lot of good time there.
The main market was also brilliant but start bargaining at 40% under the price and then meet in the middle.

huge size rooms, great location! room had complete amenities and the veranda was a nice bonus. flat screen tv was huge too and we had a great view of the opera house. free wifi too!
hotel is obviously old but the carpeting in room was new. the breakfast was a big spread but the same everyday (and some of the western food items weren't too great ex. limp bacon, sad sausages, spam direct from the can!)
this was a good hotel in terms of room size, service and location. i prefer a more modern one but had really nothing to complain about this one. the rooms were big enough for 6-8 people to camp in! opera was across it, notre dame was 3 blocks away, the river about 5 block away and there were many shops and restaurants in dong khoi street. all in all it was good!
Shopping Tip : Lucky plaza about 4 blocks away had many items you'd find in Ben Tahn market so there's no need to go all the way to Ben Than (altho for a $1 cab ride why not?!) make sure you ride Saigon Tourist or Taxi Vinasun cabs. the cabs from an unkown cab company cheated us on the cab fare charging us $10 for a $1 cab ride!!! Lemongrass restaurant 2 blocks away is good and half the price of the beautiful Nam Kha restaurant further down.

Big rooms, high ceilings, great location
Was probably really nice about 20 years ago, linens are worn and in need of updating.
The Continental Hotel is well located next to the Opera House and steps away from the ritzy shopping streets in HCMC. Also a short walk to the tourist market. The hotel is definitely trying to hold onto past glories as it has high ceilings and large rooms that would have been ornate and stately about 20 years ago when everything was new. Now it's just a little worn and threadbare, including sheets and towels... but at least clean. Still, the price is reasonable for the area, the breakfast is pretty good (although they played Christmas Music one morning for no apparent reason - It was early September), and the staff is helpful. The one caveat that I have is that I arranged for pickup from the airport by the hotel for $39... which is at least 6 times the going rate for private transport (I know, I paid $6 on the way back using the driver from my tour). You can get a taxi for $4.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Check out Urban Adventures for day tours in HCMC and surrounding areas. Given how much the hotel overcharges for a airport pickup, I wouldn't arrange for tours through them.

Definately location and large rooms.
Government run hotel, service is not attentive, receptionists are untrained in daily tasks and English levels are rather poor.
The room was spacious, yet a bit tired and after asking for another room, we got the mockup room which has been refurbished to an acceptable level of standard. The hotel is located right in the center of town, near all attractions and restaurants. The daily breakfast needs an review and service staff are in need of training.
Overall, we would come back to this hotel because of its location.
