Quiet with fast WIFI

Booked one more night here. Our room has 4 windows - one on each side. Its like being in a tower of a castle. This is the room at the top of 4th floor, so the stairs are steep and plentiful, but we don't mind (exercise if good). Our bed was really comfy and it was a nice change after the hard beds we had in Thailand. The staff don't speak much English but are still helpful. They did our laundry ($7 for about 6 kilos), made us some hot water for tea, and called us taxis when we needed them. It was good to be in an area with only locals for a while - after staying here we moved somewhere more central though.

Quiet place away from the centre

This hotel is more of a house, run by the owner family. It's in a quiet alley away from the centre, but not too far (walkable distance to the backpacker district, about 30 min - or $2 cab). It's an area with no tourists, we were the only foreigners around here. It's a chance to experience the real local Ho Chi Minh City way of life. There is an early morning market in the northernmost alley at the star intersection that is really authentic and caters to the locals. There are two gourmet restaurants on the main street near the hotel, both are delicious. One has Vietnamese crepes and the other has live seafood.
