The staff are extremely well mannered and made our stay enjoyable ,we stayed in the old section of the hotel and we managed to get a great deal on the room price .We wanted to stay here last year but it was too pricey for us .The rooms were very comfortable I would lookforward to staying in the new wing next time.The renovation is looking magnificent well done Rex.

The exchange rate for hotel guests is brilliant!

Great hotel, but rooms outdated

The Rex is a historical hotel located in the center of town. We stayed here one night and enjoyed the rooftop bar and pool. The fitness center was excellent from what I saw. We were impressed with the selection at the breakfast buffet. The major flaw of this hotel was the room. The room, including the furniture, certainly needed to be renovated. We switched hotels after the first night.

hotel rex saigon - Without expecting too much, i have arrived to stay at this hotel for the first time. As it turns out that this heritage style building offers me a great sense of an older time memories and a taste of the long lost time - the feel of history is great here. As for the hotel staff, they were very friendly and their english is acceptable, although it took me sometime to get used to their ascent. Hotel food and coffee was great and the hotel is very near to the central market downtown - a great shopping place for all tourist i must say. the room condition is pretty clean and toilet is good. i will stay at this hotel again next time when i comeback to ho chi minh city and also recommend to my family and friends for this good value hotel.

The Worst 5 Star Hotel I ever encountered

This is by far the worst service experience I have encountered in a 5 Star hotel, the service staffs' attitude is even worst than those I experienced in some 3 Star Hotel.
On our first day were shown to the rooms at the old wing, which are not only worn out but some of the lights on the corridor are not working and there is also no air conditioning and bad ventilation in the alley. We chose to upgrade to 2 suites in the new wing which is still undergoing renovation, with an additional US46/night per room.
The suites in the new wing are nice and decent, but clearly there is a lack of security and sound proofing. We were shocked when we returned from lunch and a 2 hours walk to discover that both of our hotel rooms' doors was opened. Fortunately we didn't lose anything as we had our valuables locked in the safes. When we demand to see the security camera footage, we were told by the security manager that the camera is never on, and as such they can't provide us with the footage. Other than an apology and promises that they will take special care to ensure the security at our wing, no measures were taken to ensure that our stay will be a satisfactory experience.
After 4 nights stay, when we checked out on the night before we left, we were charged for a local call which we didn't make . When we questioned over the call which cost less than USD 0.1, not only did 1 of the cashier mentioned that if its not us who made the call, who else can it be, but the other male reception was telling us this is only peanuts.
Displeased with their service attitude, we stayed and debated. Apparently the Duty Manager, Mr. Hung chose to stay out of the picture until I started staring at him. Hung only came to us after a prolonged 5 minutes stare from me. After apologizing for his staffs' unpleasant attitude and denying his knowledge of the incident when our room doors were left opened, Hung insisted that we have 2 complimentary drinks at the hotel's rooftop lounge. We called twice before booking to request info of Rex Suite whether consist of two bed rooms as we come as a family with grown up son, and were clearly confirmed . However when we arrived , we realised in fact they do not own this kind of suite type , no other choice but to accept it

This hotel has plenty of old world charm and the staff all very helpful, friendly and attentive. It is going through a renovation with most of the ground floor and east wing completed and for the west wing whilst lift and hallway areas were quite dated the room was excellent. The roof top bar is a great way to spend an evening. Located right in the heart of District 1, it is close to all the major attractions and easy walking to some great shopping. Not sure I would rate it 5 stars but overall excellent value for money and I would return.
Travel tip:
Venture outside the hotel for some great restaurants - ask the Concierge for recommendations.

if you want a taste of old world luxury, and be served by a staff that are very eager to make your stay a pleasant adn memorable one the rex.. is where you can stay, food and drink. are availble for all tastes, as lang as your not a wine drinker. cocktails, spirits and beer all reasonable price for the class of hotel.. most enjoyble place to stay.

Rex Hotel is in a great location for any purpose of visit. For shopping it is ideal. For food, there's lots to offer. For meetings, there are many opportunities for quiet discussions. The hotel itself provides short and affordable tourist agendas, although the important tourist buildings downtown are within walking distance. But unless you are the branded kind of shopper, and the hotel boasts of the upper middle class selection, you'd best take a short walk to the shopping district - classy or hawker staff. Price is worth your while. At the central market, I was advised to haggle temptations at 40% opening price, or give vent to impulse buying! What the heck! I was on visit!
The hotel frontage is removed from the serious bustle of traffic, yet commanding in terms of transport as in when a taxi is needed.
Watch out for taxis that do not click on their meters, and the concierge checks the taxis out. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of a manicure/pedicure service(my first ever that I had indulged myself in!
I will need my points for a repeat visit!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Manicure/pedicure services of which there's quite an abundance is really quite professionally undertaken. We were pleasantly surprised.
