New Years 2010 Rex Hotel

The roof top garden is extremely nice and gives a nice view of the surrounding area. Front desk staff was very friendly and was always polite and did there best with any questions. Of course English was tough for them, but they tried hard. Always smiling and greeting you coming and going. Food was good as I ate most of my meals in the hotel. Room service was quick and very nice to deal with. Room attendents were extremely effiecient and constantly asking if you needed anything and kept the room very clean and always in good condition. Nice turn down service.
I took there car service to and from airport and cars were nice and well kept. In the last 10 years, I have stayed at the rex several times and never been disappointed. The older wing does need
renovation and does a litle musty smell. The rrooms were neat and very clean. Overall, it was aa nice stay and I do recommend this hotel and was happy with the price and service.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Good area. Easy to walk around for dining and entertainment.

A Great Place to Stay

The hotel was in a great location, with major attractions and eateries a walk or short cab ride away. The staff was very friendly and the offerings (massage, tours) excellent. You can certainly find the above a bit cheaper in other venues, but the prices are still very reasonable and the value is well worth a bit extra.
Best to go with a major line and fix the price up front.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The war mueseum is a bit tough to take for an American. (Think of how the political reality might effect the presentation) That said, the hotel guide was great about noting sensative material and really made the experience better. With all attractions I found having a well spoken guide made it more interesting - got to learn from and understand different perspectives.

The Rex Hotel was a wonderful place to stay in Saigon. It had such ambiance and I could easily see where it would be a favorite of those returning to Saigon who had been there during the war. The staff was friendly, courteous, kind and very knowledegable. The Roof Top Garden bar was a delight every evening. The food was good and the srvice excellent. I would certainly return to the Rex.

I cannot remember a hotel that I have enjoyed as much as The Rex. It has maintained a certain charm, and how fascinating it was to stay at such a historical landmark! American establishments could learn a lot from the good service provided by the Vietnamese!

I liked our five-day stay at the hotel. The room, linens and towels are clean and the toiletries are of good quality except that there was no hand lotion. I liked the complimentary daily and the chocolate. The location is also ideal being walking distance to tourist spots like the notre dame church,binh thant market, museums. The classy boutiques at the next dong koi street. I'll recommend the hotel to friends. Except for the initial problem with the taxi we took from the airport to the hotel, the service was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful, although extra security should be given to guests arriving late at night as there are persons outside the hotel who pose as hotel staff.
Restaurant Tip:
I wanted to try the hotel restaurants/cafes, especially the one at the roofdeck with the live band but we were always tired from our sightseing and shopping trips, perhaps next time.

Rex hotel location is great, it's on a parallel street to Dong Khoi shopping street and only 2minutes away from Caravelle Hotel, so in the very center of town. The rooms in the older wing are not newly renovated and definetely not 5*. Room was clean though so for a stay where you won't spend much time in the hotel it's perfect.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
across the street is a mall with a great rip off DVD sales store and a nice and great value spa, called 'GLOW'.

The hotel is really well located and the external facade is very classy. The lobby/reception area is very spacious and tastefully decorated.
However I found that the staff had a bit of 'attitude' and were not very helpful. It took me two days to sort out a reservation issue with the hotel. Moving around the hotel is very very confusing.Breakfast is served on the 5th floor and I got lost EVERY single time that I tried to find my room in the old block. The plumbing had some minor hitches but was not terribly inconvenient.
Shopping Tip:
Overall I'd like to stay in the hotel again only if I get a room in the new wing.
