Rex Hotel HCMC
Location is excellent. Meals very good including breakfast.Rooftop great but you pay.
6.7
This hotel is in excellent location but the old wing has very few acceptable rooms and needs a workover.Staff are very friendly and cooperative and give help willingly. The rooftop bar and restaraunt is the main attraction. We were able to walk to many attractions incliding the markets, river, shopping complexes.Taxis readly available at front door.
Shopping Tip:
Walk to market in > 10 mins.Shopping complexes even closer

A Gem in HCMC
the breakfast buffet is enormous and delicious; Rooftop Bar has great views of the city; staff very friendly and attentive; wireless is free and a very good hotel gym is also free
9.3
The Rex is one of the grade dame hotels of Ho Chi Minh City. Given that the hotel has been expanded several times and renovated in different eras, there is a wide discrepancy in the quality of the rooms. Ours was on the 4th floor with a restricted view of an interior courtyard. Given that the Rooftop Bar is on the 5th floor and has live music every night, we could hear all the lyrics quite clearly in our room. But the delicious breakfast buffet, free wireless and gym, and rooftop swimming pools all made this a trip to remember.
Shopping Tip:
There is a great grocery store with liquor and clothes right across the street from the Rex on the third floor of the Tax Trading Center. Highlands Coffee has delicious Vietnamese Coffee and our favorite restaurant by far is the Lemongrass.

great stay
great old charm with modern touches
8.7
we loved it, Ho Chi Minh is buzzing with noise.
Room was big overlooking a central garden area.
Good A/C all the things you would expect.
We spent some time at the roof top pool afternoon tea in the bar and a drink at the infamous rooftopo bar.
Breakfast was good great selection.
Location great, good view of the city hall and surrounds.
Great xmas decorations in the entrance hall

Good location with places of happening aroud
7.3
Located near to places of happening such as shopping, dining and entertainment. Good hospitality but facility and fixture in the room need to improve in order to claim as five star hotel.

Great Location
The hotel is right in the centre of things and part of the history of the city. The new wing has nice rooms with lovely hardwood floors.
8.3
I stayed here one night before heading for the delta and 2 nights on my return. My first stay was pleasant and uneventful. Good breakfast, though it took me a while to find the counter where they did the eggs and pho. Check in service was a little bit less than efficient and there were - the staff seemed easily distracted by other things. On my second stay, despite asking for a quiet room, I was placed facing into the atrium where there was a wedding about to take place, with loud music. Staff were happy to move me to another room. After moving my things to the new room I took a shower and had just stepped out of the shower and was lying on the bed when two young men walked in, which was very embarassing given that I had no clothes on. I'm guessing the front desk had messed up and checked them into the same room. Although I immediately called the front desk to tell them, I didn't get any more than a "sorry". Given the circumstances, I would have expected an apology from a manager. I think many of the problems come from the hotel being large and institutionalised and from the fact that they are trying to run two businesses at once - a hotel and a wedding venue.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The location is great because so many of the things you'll want to see are within less than 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel.

Hotel at strategied location
strategy location in the center of the city
7
strategy location where convenience to find places for shopping, dining and entertainment. However, the facilities surrounding and inside the room still need to upgrade to fit as five star hotel.

Have stayed in nicer hotels for the price it was. The place is noisy, tired, dark and needs a big interior overhaul in order to charge the rate they do.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Very central to walk around the city.

The air conditioner was leaking in our room and we asked the staff whether they could fix it or not. The staff said they could change room for us. After waiting for 30 mins and there were no reply. We called the reception again and they said similar rooms have been fully booked. They could offer 2 rooms for us (3 people) however we had to pay the extra cost for the room. However, it wasn't our fault and why we should pay the extra. We were arguing and waiting for nearly 1 hr. Finally they offered 2 rooms for us with no extra cost. However, they wasted 2 hrs of our sleeping time. It wasn't something you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Rex Saigon Hotel - HCMC
Great location, nice pool. Great room space.
7.3
I would stay at the Rex again just for the great location. I stayed in the old wing which definately needs to be upgraded and renovated. I was very pleased with the room space, but not happy with the strong moldy smell in the room which we couldn't reduce by adjusting the air conditioning.
I was also not pleased with the hotels tour office, we took a trip to the Mekong Delta and payed five times more than a regular tour office and had a not as detailed of a tour than my previous experinece.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The hotel offers many restaurant and entertainment obtions and is in a great location.

Busy central hotel, tad worn around the edges
Right in the center of town, great for walking.
Wood floors in the Rex Suite
Breakfast included
Views over the city center
7.3
The Rex hotel is a fabulous if somewhat frayed around the edges Saigon landmark. The roof deck with its over the top decor is a good spot for a drink. We stayed there in the middle of the Christmas season and the hotel was fully decked out in holiday regalia, as was the rest of the city. The Rex Suite was a great room with a small separate sitting area, excellent for putting kids to bed first and having somewhere to hang out a bit. Good value. But it was in the old wing, so hallway was musty with yucky old carpets. The best thing is the location -- step right out into the bustle of an amazing Southeast Asian city. Ben Thanh market and other shopping areas very close by.
