- Large room (Junior Suite) - Clean - Bathroom was just as huge with an bath tub and a separate shower stall. - Free Wi-fi internet in the room - Good breakfast spread

- Oldish looking carpets - Very small TV - Water in shower stall drains very slowly

Checked into the junior suite and was pleasantly suprised that it was in fact very big. Living room area was big and comfortable whilst the bedroom proper was equally spacious. Bathroom was as large and clean. All in all, the room was above expectations other than the oldish looking carpets and furnitures. There were 2 air-cons in the rooms that made it a dream to come back to the room after a hot day's tours. The hotel location is good, about 5-10 mins walk to the main Ben Tanmh Market area and the other eating and shopping areas. Right opposite the hotel is the tourist information area that will answer all your questions on tours that you would want to book. The hotel staff at Rex were very pleasant and attentive. They tended to all our requests and were very accomodating. Thumbs up to them. Something unexpected was the availability of free internet. There were 4 computers in the lobby hooked up to the internet and all worked well, in the room, there was also free Wi-Fi internet. I would recommend the hotel to any traveller to Rex Hotel as my stay there was pleasant and fuss free.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Tour packages provided by the hotel are rather expensive. Go to either the tourist information center opposite or book your tours at the sheraton hotel tour desk.

I saw Rex Hotel on my previous visit and looks like a great hotel from the lobby. I was a little concerned about the reviews however, decided to booked for couple of nights because of the location. I was assigned a room on the 3rd level. I could tell right away that I was in the old wing by the look and smell of the lobby. The room consisted of old rattan furniture, the carpet was probably from the 70's, the room eminates moldy smell and the shower curtain was more appropriate for a kid's room. This is supposedly a 5 star hotel! I asked the front desck to be relocated in a different room, mainly because of the smell. I was given another room on the same level. Before relocating, I checked the room first. The room in a replica of the other one so I opted to stay in my room for just one night. And why bother moving if I'm not gaining anything. With the price I paid for this hotel, I would rather go somewhere else. The positive attribute of this hotel is the friendly staff and location.

Restaurant Tip : Quan An Ngon Restaurant is a great place to sample local cuisine. Usually, I try to avoid if only tourists are attracted to a restaurant, but from observation, Quan An Ngon is also locals hangout.

As a writer/journalist, this was just the kind of throwback experience I was looking for.

The rooftop bar may be a little bit overrated perhaps.

This hotel has real character you just won't find in a modern 5-star place. We stayed in a Rex Suite (old wing) and really felt we were in Saigon and not just any city. Great wooden floors, spotlessly clean walls and excellent double-glazed street facing windows meant we could get a sound night's sleep. Hearty breakfast (we did not eat in the hotel otherwise).

Good location , nice food and nice services

too crowd

7th June 2009 - I had been to Ho chi minh City before and decided, this time, to stay "downtown". This was a pleasant experience. The hotel is located within easy walking distance from the central city, bus terminals and next to a major shopping complex offering great bargains. Free access to the Internet is a plus. As a matter of principle, I always give priority to hotels offering this service.

Location. Beautiful new wing. FANTASTIC breakfast buffet.

Inner courtyard facing rooms.

Make sure to request a street facing room in the new wing. We booked a premium room {new wing} and were at first disappointed to find ourselves looking into the courtyard which meant no privacy, very nice room otherwise. After complaining the staff were very helpful in switching us to another room. The breakfast buffet is absolutely wonderful. Something for everyone. Super yum.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Right next to beautiful Hotel de Ville and has a famous rooftop bar.

Everything was great

Only one thing, there's music from outside starting at about 7 am. I don't know if it's something that the hotel can stop.

All the staff was friendly. We even got flower as we were on the honeymoon. This place has an Asian traditional atmosphere which looked great. The beakfast was excellent.

Good central location. Clean rooms.

Noise from refurbishment.

The Rex Hotel is in a great location with easy access to local attractions. We stayed in a Junior Suite in the Old Wing which had been refurbished to a high standard. However, there is still some work going on and there was drilling and banging during the day. The old part of the hotel is more like a 3/4 star than the advertised 5 stars. The nightly entertainment in the Rooftop Bar was good, but finished at about 11pm and the 'casino' - Bingo Club was a complete joke. Just a small room with about 20 machines in it although I believe this is being extended.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The staff on reception were very helpful when arranging days out.

Rooms are clean, close to shopping areas, friendly (english speaking) hotel staffs.

None

The room we had was clean and spacious. We were amazed by the cleaniness of the bath tub (as we travel a lot) and toilets are normally not so well maintained at most hotels. We were staying at one of the Deluxe rooms which offer a great view of the city and close to most of the shopping centres in Ho Chi Minh City. The Air-conditioning is a stand-alone unit and provided much needed comfort when back from all those shoppings. The pools are clean and of a reasonable size and the hotel staff are friendly. We will surely stay there again in the future.

Shopping Tip : Just check with the Reception counter and they can point you to some fantastic places for shopping.

Restaurant, Staff, Pool, GYM!!!, room, atmosphere, location!

In the center of town, a little noisey and I suggest bring a pair of earplug so that you ear nothing, but not that big a deal!

This was such a great experience, the hotel is beautiful, very well priced for what it give you. It is in a great location, all the restaurants are amazing. The buffett on the roof top Friday and Sat. is great! We tango danced until early morning with the amazing band. There is a lot of history. I loved the gym and spa!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : War Museum just a few blocks, Re-unification palace is also a few blocks, don't go at high noon! VERY HOT and no AC, lots of people, go later in afternoon!

We know the REX well visiting 5th floor veranda for music and relaxation and to listen to my friend Atti sing. The new wing is absolutely spectacular and our room very nice. The help in the hotel is the most courtious and helpful that I have found anywhere.

my wife made the mistake of drinking the "wrong" bottle of water, not the free one. When at check-out I was presented a bill for $5USD for a 50cent bottle of water I was fLoored! But with a little "whinning" on my part they absorbed the cost.

we have spent many an evening on the Veranda listening to music, enjoying cafe and sodas and hearing Atti sing to us. Beautiful! The night was capped off with the awsome breakfast buffet on veranda, and then home to reality again in Q-5.

Hotel Feature Tip : 5th floor veranda and restaurant says it all....

The rate is very competitive, Near the city central

Very old outlook design small room

Hotel only fit to business trip not for long stay which prioritize the comforts. The internet service is wireless which good for people bringing laptop. the morning buffet is not diversed and not 5-star style. From the decoration outside and in-room, it only qualify for 4 star.

great location close to great shopping and restuarants

rooms a little old

This hotel is close to great shopping, markets and places to eat. Our room was a standard room and was a little small and dated but was cleaned and serviced every day. Free WiFI in oour room was a plus. The buffet breakfast was amazing with something for everyone. If you can catch the seafood buffet it is well worth the $28US. Staff were very polite and friendly but most have limited english, but they try very hard

Location

expensive bar, cheap tacky rooms, clogged shower, incomplete renovation.

This hotel, while on a hot location, close to Ben Thanh market, duong dong khoai, Sheraton hotel, etc, is in need of some serious renovation. The room that we stayed in was located on the 3rd floor and it was a long windy walk from the elevator to the room. Everything in the room was old, which reminded me more of sleazy motels than a 5-star hotel. We had two choices; to shower or to take a bath. I decided to save some water by taking a shower and the shower was clogged in less than 2 minutes of water running. To get to eat your breakfast, you have to go up to the 5th floor, walking by the pool. The food was OK, continental breakfast with some local food (banh cuon, banh tom, Chinese porridge, etc).

Restaurant Tip : We had some banh mi at a place called Nhu Lan on duong Ham Nghi. Unlike REX hotel, the food was good and of a good value (25,000 dong/banh mi)!

good service, nice room, good location, easy to catch taxi cabs

slow internet, poor selection of breakfast food.

I usually stay at Rex Hotel every time I visit Ho Chi Minh City, and they always remember me. Very nice and careful services they have. Also, the rooms are large and nice.
