I was expecting something charming and French and colonial, but the hotel looked and felt a bit musty. When we checked in it was 9 pm, and there wasn't a soul in the lobby except for the two hotel staff. It looked deserted and dark. Of course the next morning we met a number or people at breakfast, but it was a creepy first impression. We had asked for a river view room with a double bed. We were instead given a room with no view at all, and with two single beds. When we asked for a better room, we were told that they were full up, they did show us a few options, but none which was substantially better than what we were given in the first place. Since we were there for just two nights, and we planned to be out the whole day, we accepted what we got. We woke up in the morning and had expected at least a basic tea making facility in the room, but that was not available. The hotel is a good 20 minute walk away from the main tourist hub, which has all the travel agencies, one can always take a taxi which are easily available, but we like to walk and that walk seemed a bit too long at the end of a hectic sightseeing day. At the end of our trip we stayed in another hotel in the middle of the tourist hub, and found a hotel room at half the price, and way more lively and happening then Riverside Saigon. I don't think it's worth the price we paid . I had expected something charming and colonial, instead we got a strictly average room.

Good breakfast.

Location, a good 15 to 20 minute walk away from the main tourist areas. No tea and coffee making facility in the room. Nothing colonial or charming about the hotel.

  • Restaurant Tip : Good coffee and ice cream places behind the hotel in a small alley.

I had so good time. The room was very clean. The staff were very kind but not so frank. If you will stay this hotel, you should choose the room located at the Riverside. So you can enjoy the view of Saigon river.

Location for shopping, the view from Riverside room, cleanliness.

No pot in the room.

Pleasantly surprised, overall service very good, air con not working properly but fixed in minutes. Pick up from the airport saved a lot of hassles. The hotel is well placed to take in Dong Khoi street and it's many shops, Ben Than market is within walking distance, but would suggest going by taxi.

Clean and comfortable hotel, very helpful staff, larger than expected rooms, well located for all attractions, low cost but surprisingly good.

Pick a room with a river view otherwise the roof is a bit dreary.

  • Nightlife Tip : River cruise and meal is great especially at night.

The hotel promises more than it delivers, it is not as grand as you first think, and the rooms are only average. The riverside location should be an asset, but the reality is that you feel a bit removed from the action. The place could do with a renovation.

Good location, okay rooms, heritage theme.

Poor breakfast, indifferent service, a bit run down.

  • Shopping Tip : The market arcade just around the corner "the Russian Market" is a good place to shop for bargains.

This hotel can be confused easily with the other Riverside Hotel next door, which is a modern tower and operated by Marriott. I would not recommend staying here, given the myriad, better mid-range options on or near Dong Khoi (such as Bong Sen). Staying riverside in Saigon is not a bonus--the river is industrial and the street below is loud and dirty.

Very good location near Dong Khoi; interesting hotel property history; fairly spacious room; firm mattress.

Saigon's riverside is hardly picturesque; street noise can be disturbing despite good sound attenuation; tired common areas; tacky ground floor retail; awful breakfast; no gym.

We were very impressed with the hotel for a 3 star, having stayed in some very nice hotels we didnt have high expectations for this hotel but the room was great, lovely and big and nice and clean. The breakfast was ok and we were more than happy with the variety they had to offer. The location was good, we walked to market and was nice and handy to some really good restaurants.

The room was very big and nice and clean.

Staff at reception were not very helpful.

  • Restaurant Tip : Jaspers Restaurant was great and handy to Hotel, we are expats living in Macau so was nice to have some good ozzie food.

The Riverside Hotel is a good place to start your stay in Ho Chi Minh City. It overlooks the Saigon River and is centrally located to many other hotels. The Riverside Hotel is inexpensive (probably mid-range for a night's stay) and the staff that works there are quite friendly.

Large bath tubs, good set of complimentary bath supplies, wide array of television channels, soft pillows, great breakfast buffet.

Some rooms do not have windows, the hotel has seen better days, slow elevator (I used the stairs in frustration), paint chipping off the walls.

  • Restaurant Tip : The Riverside Hotel is about two blocks away from a great restaurant called The Black Cat. The Black Cat has various foods from Tex-Mex, American, and Vietnamese. A great place to lounge and have great food and shakes!

It is a good place due to the location and the cleanliness. However, for the price I expected more. We found a hotel a block away that was cleaner, newer, and half the price. But if you want a reliable internet booking, it is a good choice. The breakfast was pretty good too. And the air conditioner in my room was awesome, which is exactly what you need after a hot day of site seeing.

The staff was pretty friendly, and was able to help with many things. It has a good location next to the ferry. My room was fairly large, and there were lots of good channels on the television.

It is definitely showing its age. There was construction going on which was a little loud in the morning, so they might be updating it. The spa was closed, so they told us to go to one down the street which was fairly expensive.

  • Restaurant Tip : Close to great restaurants such as Black Cat and Al Fescos, if you want Western Food. Black Cat has the biggest cheeseburger I have ever seen.
