Simple room especially the standard rooms some of which have no windows
Thang Long hotel has a reception that is a floor above road level and hence those with heavy luggage may have some difficulty. However, the staff are most helpful and if they see you carrying any heavy bags, they will rush to help. The morning breakfast included in the rate is again simple but quite tasty and has Vietnamese or Western choices. Staff have also always shown to be trust worthy and plite at all times. I stay here regularly and have never regretted my choice... even in the face of the occasional windowless room (which on the plus side offers a quieter stay).
Nightlife Tip : Lots of fun bars close by. Went to one called Chili Pub at 104, Ho Tung Mau St. which is a street just next to Sun Wah Tower that's close. The ladies serving can all speak English and are very friendly. Mainly a cool expat crowd.
