Phuoc An River Hotel, Hoi An

We found this hotel quite nice and one of the better hotels in this price range that we stayed in while in Vietnam. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet included was served in the roof top restaurant and was varied and adequate, staff was very prompt to replace items that I pointed out that needed to be refreshed. Our corner room was of ample size with two balconies and a nice view over rice paddies. The complementary bikes from the hotel were an excellent service, it made getting around, going to the beach and going into town very convenient since the hotel is not in the center of the town which was our preference. The front desk however needs to be more honest with the going rate charged for a pickup or taxi charged from the Danang Airport to the hotel. I called the hotel to pre-arrange a pick up from the Danang airport to the hotel, the front desk offered to pick us up for US$15 but I suggested price was high since my friends advised me that they arranged a ride from the Danang Airport to Phuoc An a few months prior for US$10 which my guide book supported that price too, the front desk told me that was an outdated price. I agreed to a pick up and paid US$15. Once in Phuoc An we easily found a taxi willing to take us to the Danang airport for US$8, I mentioned this to the front desk and they offered to take us to the airport for US$10. We did ultimately take the hotels car service back to the airport for US$10. This marred our other very pleasant stay at the Phuoc An River Hotel.

Firstly, the location of the hotel was far removed from the old town, though they do provide motorcycles and bicycles. Upon check in, I found the lobby with it's pseudo asian deco very distastful, the staff however, were relatively pleasant. Be careful which room you are assigned to, one side of the hotel faces the river (great), while the back side faces a cemetary (not so great). The lift to the rooms was really small, and corridors are poorly lit. Room wise, the amenities were seriously average, however, our room smelt more than a little musty when we checked in. Overall I would not reccommend this hotel to potantial holiday makers.

This is an excellent hotel. The rooms were very nice, well equipped and very clean. We had excellent service during our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. it is a little far from town but there is a free shuttle that drops off and picks up every few hours so it is very convenient. The hotel food was very good and reasonably priced. The furnishings throughout the hotel were very harmonious and pleasing to the eye. there was much thought given to detail and color harmony. I would highly recommend this hotel.
