Strategic no nonsense first stop
Location. Help and advice. Cost
Avalon was a budget choice for our first stop in KTM and nepal. The location to the airport and nearby key spots is perfect. Also the distance to the bus stop for anyone travelling to Pokhara is also short (10-15). The rooms are basic but clean. Showers are slightly on the colder side but this is natural for many hotels in the area i think. Overall no complaints and the stafd are more than happy to help with arrangements or just offer advice for your stay

forget about this place
Worst place since 2 months of travelling around asia...i talk by my experience...it was dirty and smelly due to the water infiltration from the "secret" window above the beds, the window is hidden by a nepalise traditional flag... the bathroom was nothing to special, i mean ok for the price but the water came out brown...enjoy the room.

Great location, helpful staff, and affordability
Great location, helpful staff, and affordability
Located across the street from all the bars, restaurants, shopping and nightlife of Thamel, this is a great deal for any traveler looking for an affordable room in a great location. I stayed twice and my only complaint is that both of the bathrooms had broken shower head fixtures. Other than that minor setback, I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Kathmandu.

Good authentic stay in great location great views!
The roof top view is pretty special and the guys that work at the hostel are super friendly.
We had a really good stay at Avalon house , the hotel is at the edge of Thamel which means its close enough to be in the action but quiet enough to give you some restbite from the crazy streets! The hotel is basic but all you need , one bad thing , our room wasnt cleaned at all during our stay , something you may want to ask for should you be staying for any length of time , the Kathmandu electricity shortages do affect the hotel but there is power in the reception most of the time should you need to charge anything desperately , check with Saput the owner of the times that the power is on as going to the loo in the dark isn't that fun!! The roof top area is pretty special , you get an amazing view of the sprawling city , not to be missed! Breakfast can be had up on the roof , the toast was average but the coffee was very good! They do offer a transfer to the airport which is super helpful although they do charge for this , check how much it is when you request it though as the price kept changing!!

Musty, Basic, Noisy
Rooftop patio, Helpful staff, Hot shower
I asked for a airport pickup, never got a reply. No one was there when we arrived in Kathmandu so had to get a taxi which was ok. Got to hotel, was checked into the only room they had left so i dont think i got the deluxe room i payed for. Room had attached bathroom and was so stinky. smelt like we were sleeping in a damp cave. At night was very noisy but we were in kathmandu after all. The manager informed me they were having problems with the internet so never received my booking. At least they did help us with booking buses and ordering taxis. but i would most likely not recommend this hotel or stay here again. Dissapointed i could have got a better hotel for less money.

stay away
nothing was good
i arrived to find they had given away my room. they put me up in the neighboring hotel which was horrific. i stayed a total of 20 minutes, took the money loss and went to a hotel down the street which was 100 x better.

traumetizing
absolutely nothing
The worst experience I had was leaving my valuables (locked in a backpack) with the desk clerk to go out for the day. When I came back at around 9pm and asked for my things, they couldn't find it anywhere. We went through everything in their room with locked luggage (not uncommon here - everyone leaves their stuff to go trekking) and my bag was not there. I had many valuables, including important medication, in the bag and started to panic. They called the owner, who told me that because I wasn't back before 6pm my things weren't ready. 1) he said nothing about getting my things before 6pm and 2) what was so special about my things that they wouldn't be in the locked luggage room? They told me the owner TOOK MY THINGS HOME WITH HIM. When I demanded them, they kept saying "Tomorrow morning." "Okay, well get it - 1 hour." "No, tomorrow morning." "Fine, 2 hours." "No, tomorrow morning..." At this point I was crying. I needed the medication, it is pricey, and I had a lot of important things in that bag. I was suspicious that they lost it and were just trying to waste time to tell me tomorrow morning that my bag was gone. One employee was laughing while I was crying. They had to call the owner 3 times, with me finally talking to him, and telling him that this was completely ridiculous, unprofessional, and why would he take my things home with him anyway? I finally got my things after midnight. I'd had a horrible, stressful night and was too upset to sleep. I was supposed to start a trek early the next morning. The next morning the owner apologized and claimed my bag was under the front desk the entire time (even though I saw an employee bring my bag in from his car), and that the mix-up was all because of a room number mistake. Besides that awful experience, the room was dirty, the shower head was not attached to the wall, and my window opened up onto the stairwell, and could only be opened from the outside (weird - and creepy).

Nice rooftop, helpful staffs, good location
Nice rooftop, helpful staffs, good location
It's nice at all with cheap rate but good service. Staffs are helpful and friendly. They can help you to book bus ticket to Nagarkot and flight one to Pokhara. Breakfast at the rooftop is also a nice experience!
