Noise can be transfered though the ceilings
I can't bear the noise at night. So I change to elsewhere.

Much space to improve.

Not too pleasant. Could not sleep well during the nite.

Quick Trip to NYC

The location was really awesome and the men at the front desk were friendly.
Luckily we were only there for one night, but I guess we got what we paid for. We were in a windowless room roughly the size of a closet with a hole in the ceiling that was covered with a towel and barely enough room to turn around in. The bathrooms were shared, but clean. The TVs are from the 90s at the most recent, and get really poor reception of only one channel in Chinese. This was all fine, as we just wanted a cheap place to stay, and the Bowery Grand is actually in a really great location. The real problem was the walls are paper thin which resulted in a really terrible night's sleep. At 1 AM a tenant and the desk attendant got into a loud argument where they were threatening to sue each other. Worse, at 3 AM someone in another room's alarm went off and they didn't turn it off for hours, meaning we couldn't sleep for hours. People walking around was really loud too. I would still go back for a cheap, terrible place to stay in a great location, but I'd bring earplugs next time.

Meets basic needs

in the heart of community, convenient, economical
This is a no thrill hotel. It has all the minimum basics, a bed just big enough for one person plus a couple of feet to move around the room. It is in an old building with long stairway. No elevator. Rooms are clean, but no linen change in over two weeks. Shared bathroom. Sewer drains in the bathroom are left opened. It would be better if they could have the plumber cap them. This appears to be one of the cheapest hotel on the net. It is affordable and is near to everything a tourist needs. Wifi is available inside the room. I wish they could put in a printer in the common area. That would meet the needs of business travelers.

At least it's something.

Noone entered our room, there were bathrooms and we didn't get killed in our sleep.
If you are taller than 1.8m (or about 6ft) expect to sleep curled up into a ball! A hotelroom that looks more like a prison cell is always fun to sleep in! But on a serious note: the double rooms were 1.8m by 1.8m, very small! But this is what I expected it to be when we arrived there. The staff was friendly, but the problem was that the walls of our room were very thin. So expect to learn a Chinese word or two during the night. Other than that, no big problems, other than a few of those pesky bed bugs. Also, toilets weren't the neatest in the world. Whatever, there's probably not too many places in Manhattan that are cheaper than this, so if you don't mind discomfort: go for it - you'll survive.

A dirty bed in NYC

Literally a small bed when you open the door. It smells funny. Dirty sheets. No space for bigger luggages. Shared bathroom. Good location though, near to several metro stations. A good sense of humour and survival instinct is required to pass the night unscathed. When they say no frills, they mean it.

Poor living condition.

Good location,, food is very good and inexpensive.
There was no housekeepinf service the two weeks I stayed at this hotel. Street construction was none stop. There were two bathrooms shared by all the tenants. Most of the rooms are very small and has no window. The hotel is on the second floor, there is no elevator. The janitor did not even picked up my trash.Location is very good. It is in the heart of China- town and Litle Italiy. Food is inexpensive because restaurants, markets and grocery stores are everywhere. Buses and subway stations are within 10 blocks distance. Fare is $2.50.
