From the very first moment we walked in to this lovely little Hanok on the top of the hill ('maru' in Korean - we learned so much this trip!) we felt we were treated like family. Jason's (Siyoung) English is perfect and we started our stay with a mini history lesson that left us confident we would be fluent in Korean by the end of the trip. That did not quite happen but Jason proved to be helpful time after time - he could be reached through email or WhatsApp throughout the stay to answer questions, help with booking tours or just getting directions. The major highlight for us was breakfast each morning. Our Korean Mom (or Han-mom as we affectionately called her) made the MOST delicious food each morning and we got to enjoy this wonderful meal with our fellow guesthouse traveler's which was very comforting when so far away from home. From dried pollack soup to mini kimchi pancakes it was a feast every morning that left us full for hours. We cannot stress enough how caring the family at Bukchon Maru guesthouse is! One evening we inquired where we could find good galbi in the neighborhood and our Korean mom could not quite give is directions in English -- but that did not stop her -- she walked us to the restaurant. Then, once we got there, she called Jason and had him translate her menu suggestions and they put in an order for us. It was exactly what we had been craving and the restaurant was wonderful! Finally, the Hanbok experience was SUPER cool. They have many, many beautiful traditional Hanboks and two friends of the family and our Han-mom helped us dress. We then spent the next 40 minutes taking pictures in every corner of the Hanok, as well as the street outside. The pictures will make a wonderful memory!!! The location was great and within walking distance of tons of sights, shopping, transportation, and food. We are from New York and Bukchon Hanok Village is very much the Brooklyn of Seoul. Overall, amazing authentic experience!!!

great hospitality

Mr Kim and his family are very nice, they waited for us to go back to the guesthouse despite it was already midnight. Their room was very comfortable and their location is very convinient.

Mr Kim's Chinese is very fluent, thus not having any problems regarding communication and asking for directions to a certain place.

Overrall the stay is great, except that I find the room a bit cramped for the 4 of us plus luggage. The walk to the hotel from anguk station is 15mins, but generally acceptable. Alot of walking involved but we can enjoy the scenery. There were a lot of shops by the roadside from hotel to anguk station so it quite enjoyable.

Accommodating host and good experience..

Friendly host, well preserved hanok, quiet surrounding

Great experience though just for a night. The place was clean and well maintained except that the bedroom was a little too small which was expected since we chose to experience staying in a hanok. They have beautiful traditional costumes for us to wear for pictures as well, even went outaide the compound for pictures. We had to leave early next day and miss the breakfast with the host. Nonetheless, the host tried his best to compensate by getting us bread, milk and yoghurt. Great job!
