Not Happy

Water pressure,
A four star rating is definately not accurate, the carpet on the stairs was badly worn, bathroom needs updating badly, air conditioning needs servicing, matress on bed needs to be replaced urgently,Ihad to sleep diagonally across the bed to get confortable, the entire place needs to be upgraged, It is definately not four star accomodation and I will not be recommending it to friends or accaintances.

Pretty happy

The food and the shower
Over all it was a decent place to stay. We only paid $70 for one night and I wouldn't of paid anymore. The TV remote was so dodgy it was hard to change the channel and it took us ages to figure out Foxtel as they don't give you instructions on how to get into it. We dined at the restaurant for dinner and received our meals quickly and they were fresh and delicious! Probably just a tad too expensive but defiantly worth it. Over all the hotel needs a make over especially in their hall way. It smells a bit funny as you walk through it. The shower was awesome it had heaps of pressure and hot water. Make sure you bring your own blanket though there's are only sheets. I would stay here again but only at a discounted rate of $70 and not the standard amount for one night

Great Value

The room was spacious staff very friendly and plenty of places to eat nearby.
I stayed for one night while transiting Cairns overnight. While it is not in the City this hotel has a lot of amenities in easy walking distance such including a large shopping center, convenience stores and a very nice football club with great food. It only took 15 minutes to drive to the airport and only five minutes into the city. I will definitely stay here again.

Rooms ok but it smell of mold and fungi smell.

Staff was friendly.
It would have been good if not for the smell.

A 2-night stay

The three best things about this hotel were the staff (specifically the receptionists) who were very helpful, the bed which was comfortable, and the bathroom which was clean and tidy.
I arrived at the Cairns Southside after several days at sea on a liveabord dive boat. My intial thoughts was that the motel's location was rather far from the esplanade (city centre). That being said I was reasonably happy with my room - it was much more spacious than the cabin I'd just been in and the bathroom was decent. The toilet was comfortable (!) and the shower did it's job nicely. After getting sorted in my room I spoke to the receptionist (who was delightfully helpful) about walking to the centre of the town. At a fair clip you can do it in about 50 minutes (I did!) but do follow their advice and keep to the main road. Some of the surrounding areas can be a little rough (as confirmed by the taxi drivers I spoke to). If you aren't up for a bracing walk and certainly if it is dark then hire a taxi (16 dollars or so will get you to the botanical gardens, if I remember correctly, so taxis won't break the bank). Now, as I stayed over the Easter weekend staff levels and room cleaning levels were at a minimum and dining options were unavailable. I understand this and I do tend to prefer being left alone anyway. However, where this motel can pick up its game a little is in maintenance. The towel hook on the back of the bathroom door fell off at first use (with the motel's own clean towels :-) ) and the fitted light in the ceiling appeared to show some heat damage to the surrounding fitment. This is common to those type of recessed ceiling lights but a lick of paint wouldn't have gone amiss. Also, the ceiling fan needed remounting as it rather enchantingly wobbled as it got up to speed.... Apart from that I can't complain. I'd say a 3 star rating would probably be more accurate.
