Exactly what was promised

Friendliness of staff, Location, Value for money
This tiny boutique-villa style hotel worked pretty well for us. Its not exactly amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, but still close enough that you can walk it. You step out on to the main road and you're at one end of the main lake of Kandy - this was perfect because we were looking for a relaxed, easy going atmosphere. The entire staff was very welcoming and helpful, with good tips on what to do/where to eat, and also with useful contacts to arrange for very reasonable taxis. For the price we paid the rooms met our expectations - they were nice and clean, with good looking furniture and interior design. My only advise would be that the family suite for 4 is little small - with only one bathroom. It basically has 4 beds in a single room, so you might want to consider booking two separate rooms for more privacy and comfort. We didn't eat any of our meals here, since the menu felt a little limiting especially for an Indian palate. We did have breakfast once, and it was simple yet good english style with bread and eggs - the kind you will find readily all over Sri Lanka. However the restaurant in the courtyard of the villa has a pretty nice feel to it, and one can sit there enjoying a little snack and conversation/reading. I would definitely recommend castelo kandy to anyone looking for a nice authentic experience in this price range!

Not as expected

Comfortable Room
Staying at Castelo was completely average to poor. Firstly, I could not get the room I booked and was taken to another house. There was no wi-fi as advertised. There was no phone in the room. The area is located at an incredibly busy junction with car's, buses and Tuk-tuks hooting and tearing past. Air pollution in Kandy is appalling. Black soot on the balcony tiles is proof of this. The air quality is very poor. The city is congested with traffic for most of the day, and then abruptly closes around 8pm. Dining at the hotel is equally appalling- their English breakfast is a pathetic attempt at cooking. The hotel was taken over by Arabs who carried chairs around the hotel grounds, cutting their hair right at the front entrance. My booked room was given to them, and I was housed at a different location. Kandy is still very far away from Colombo in terms of services to Travellers. A complete waste of money, not to mention serious diarhoea after my first meal. One to avoid.

Wonderful stay in Kandy

Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely terrace for meals and afternoon relaxation
My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Castelo. Although it is a simple hotel, it has its own certain charm. We had a large family room and enjoyed our Sri Lankan breakfasts. We also enjoyed sitting out on the terrace. The staff were fantastic! The manager offered so much assistance from local buses to cultural sights to organizing drivers etc. We would definitely stay here again...

A nice quiet stay by the lake

Location, friendly staff, big room
This is a nice, quiet property. The rooms are large, well-furnished, with fan and AC. We had a king-size bed in our room which was very comfortable. Plenty of space to unpack and store our things. The terrace was a wonderful place for breakfast and dinner. It was a short walk to the lake and Temple of the Tooth and on into Kandy town. The staff were very friendly and the manager had many helpful suggestions for sight-seeing. Breakfast was exceptional. There's a choice of a western or Sri Lankan breakfast , both of which were large and tasty. Would definitely recommend a stay here on your visit to Kandy.

Great stay in Kandy!

Hostess Food Location
Upon arrive I was meet by a very lovely and friendly lady named Dilani... She was very welcoming and went out of her way to make me feel at home. The hotel had an old colonial charm with a beautiful verandah to have a delicious Sri Lankan meal... The rooms were nice and spacious at a resonable price... Thank you Dilani and the staff at Costelo Hotel for doing such a great job...
