Good Overall
Actually, the staff is very nice and helpful, the room is clean and given that it's in the busy touristy area it was quiet being down an alley off the Main Street. I booked a Cu Chi Tunnel group tour through the hotel and the price was fair and the experience was as expected. The only thing I found a bit disturbing, and it might not have been better elsewhere for same price range given that Saigon is a crowded city, is that there were a few baby roaches in the room. I grew up in a clean apartment in NY in a nice neighborhood and sometimes it's part of city life - but I really hate bugs.

Small clean hotel in the heart of District 1
We have now visited this hotel a number of times and always find the staff helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and tidy but if you are on the top floor it is a bit of a trek up to the room via the stairs. Also the rooms at the front of the hotel are significantly better than the back room but the price appears to be the same! Ask for a room with a 2 at the back of the number for a better room, e.g. 302,402, etc.

Excellent Midrange Hotel
My husband and I stayed here out first 2 nights in Saigon. The hotel staff (name is Phu) booked a 2 day Mekong Delta tour (which was $25USDpp and was fantastic) for us and when we returned to Saigon on the fourth night we decided to stay at Cat Huy again. Our room was 502 and it had a nice view of the City'so rooftop. The room was one of the most spacious we'vemail had during our trip to VN as well as one of the cleanest. We had a very comfortable stay all in all. Keep in mind that this hotel is located in an alley which is also a market during the morning so depending on the kind of traveller you are you could either love it or not. My husband and I thought that the alley market was one of the coolest feature because right after we enjoy our free breakfast included (pho without meat was da bomb) we would scour the busy market for coconut water, fruit and banh mi). Best way to start the morning and to immerse ourselves in the culture. Re location, we were smack dab in the middle of backpackers district between Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien street and about 10 minute walk to Ben Thanh market. Just a word of advice, do mot fear the alleyways... you can find a lot of shortcuts and when in doubt ask a local to point you in the right direction. Shops and restaurants were all within walking distance. We took taxis to explore other districts of Saigon. The staff allowed us to use the rooftop shower on our last night in Saigon even though we had already checked out that morning. Super friendly and keen to help. PS, if you go to the rooftop and climb up the spiral ladder you can take anote awesome photo of the Cify'so sunset. Needless to say we will definitely stay here again when we return to Saigon.

Barely sufficient
In a daunting alleyway. There were ants in my bathroom. Photos provided are not real. Staff was ok, but came off as rude at times. Map of the hotel location is different on each site I went to. Be careful. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Great stay!
The Cat Huy Hotel was a great place to stay, very close to the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. It was very easy to get around by foot and was a quick alleyway's distance from the main backpackers' street. A few minor things to note was the slightly ominous alleyway that the hotel was located. After our first night, we couldn't have felt safer and in the morning, the alley transformed into a bustling market. As we were on the front end of a big trip, we had quite a bit of luggage. Since there are no elevators, it was a bit of a trek up to the higher floors, but not a deal breaker by any means. The only real setback experienced were the ants that had seemed to colonize around the bathroom entrance and sink. To end on a good note, in addition to the great location and life of the area, the staff was extremely excellent and accommodating. Breakfast pho was delicious and service was always conducted with a smile. Furthermore, not only did the Cat Huy allow us to store or luggage for 6+ hours on our checkout day, I was personally motorbiked out to find some delicious local banh mi for dinner the evening after we had already checked out. Would recommend and would book this hotel again.

Stolen shoes.
My shoes were stolen from this hotel, right from the front door. It happened at 8pm with the front desk clerk sitting within 5 feet of the entrance. As this hotel encourages guests to take off their shoes, it is unbelievable they cannot guarantee the safety of the shoes. And how could they be so complacent in monitoring the building. The entrance is already behind a gate, back from the street and in clear view of the front desk. This wasn't a grab and run in the middle of the night, and there was another guest who also had their shoes taken at the same time. They also had no cameras watching the area, so they response was less than stellar. "Sorry there gone, nothing we can do"....well it ended up costing them almost $100 as I demanded to be compensated for the cost of replacing the shoes, and luckily I had not paid for my room yet so I simply refused to pay for the room In lieu of the shoes. The one good thing I can say was the owner seemed genuinely sorry and agreed to cover the cost of the shoes by waving the room charge . BUT I would definitely caution anyone staying at this hotel to definitely do not agree to leave your shoes out, and in general watch over your belongings. I would hope the hotel would learn a lesson from this experience, as although I was compensated. The hassle, time and inconvenience of the experience has left me with s less than positive impression of this particular hotel.
