A dreadful experience, partially recovered

Setting by the river
The Cave Cliff Tarzan River Kwai Resort consists of a number a chalets, set in poorly-kept grounds on the bank of the river. The chalets look great from the outside. Some are of bamboo construction, others of moulded cement, meant to look like trees or caves, yet more of traditional materials. Our four-man bungalow was bamboo, with a brick-built bathroom attached. It was spacious, but had severe drawbacks. There were no beds (seriously), just two cheap mattresses on the floor. There were no bedsheets, just a blanket each. In the crude bathroom, there was no hot water (the heater was broken). We had a kettle, but no cups, no tea/coffee etc. There was a TV which received only local stations. The aircon worked well. In the bathroom, the roof was in poor repair and had a number of holes. Also, the roof from the sleeping area sloped down under the bathroom roof to drain on to the bathroom floor. When it rained, you might just have well have been outdoors, there was so much water falling from the bathroom roof. We tolerated this room for one night, then complained the next morning. We were moved to one of the 'Cliff' rooms. This was much smaller, but it had a bed and hot water. On request, they managed to produce sheets for the bed (though they thought it an odd request) and some tea-cups. We found the hotel extremely expensive and poor value. I have stayed in nice hotels in BKK for less than this.
