About Chanthavinh Resort and Spa

Description

In this quaint, historic town, there can be no better place to stay than a hotel that is a mix of the old and the new. Located in Ban Chan village, the resort is across the Mekong River and be reached in 30 minutes from the airport, halfway by car and then a short ferry ride. The resort is also the only place in the city making traditional pottery, and guests can try a hand or just be appreciative observers. At the riverside restaurant guests can enjoy local cuisine plus Asian and Western dishes. Guests can even choose to enjoy a meal in the open by the river. Chanthavinh Resort and Spa is indeed worth visiting!

Nightmare Hotel
Worst hotel experience I have ever had. Scary in fact. Staff did not speak English. We were stuck on the otherwise of the river with no food because restaurant ran out of everything. Yes everything. Then I saw my room! Nightmare! These are the following reasons: Rodent droppings in bathroom, on top of furniture and on top of lighting box in room. Broken window (probably how rodent gets in). No soap besides dispenser at sink. No towels in bathroom, only decoration towels on bed. No wash towels. No trash can in room or bathroom. No television remote. Dirty moldy refrigerator. I immediately booked another hotel for the rest of my stay and slept with the light on for fear of being bitten by rodents! Stay away!!

Spa? Resort? Definitely not
Beautiful gardens, attentive staff,
Beautiful gardens, idyllic setting, friendly staff. But definitely not a "resort" and also no spa. Also the wifi during our stay was just about non-existing. The food was ok but often some of the items on the menu wasnt available. Good for a stop-over and maybe to spend a night or 2 there. The level of maintenance really needs to be improved and the photos on the website shows only the good side.

Wonderful Secluded Resort
Resort grounds, wifi, transport services
The Hotel is incredibly beautiful with lovely grounds and pool. Thank you so very very much for our room upgrade over christmas! It was a great present! The hotel is best for those looking to relax and perhaps only go into town once per day due to location. It is across the river from the centre of town, and a boat and then bus ride is required, so this takes 30mins or so each way. Having said that the hotel provides this transport free of charge and at anytime till 11pm so it is easy to do. For elderly people it might be difficult as there are steps and both ends of the journey.

Resort outside town
quiet, nice settings, complimentary boat and van
The rooms were not ready when we arrived at 18:00 hrs. Bathroom is dirty with no hot water in the sink tap. No hangers in the wardrobe. Staff is eager to help but they do not understand English. Though agreed on the pick up point and time in city but one day nobody showed up. Though impression was given that he understood but obviously this was not the case. If you have troubles in stairs climbing then avoid this place. You have to take a resort courtesy boat and van to come to the city. Rooms are large in nice settings but need refurbishing. This resort has a lot of potential but needs proper refurbishment and maintenance. For a resort they need staff who can speak and understand English.

Communication and TLC could make this wonderful
Location, Views, Pool
Sometimes you just feel so mean when it comes down to having to write a review, and this is definitely one of those instances. I WANTED to like this hotel, I really did, but, just...sigh...it could be so much better. Look, the location can't be faulted. It's pretty, it's romantic, and it deserves to be so much more. But at the end of the day, with the exception of the wonderful Say on reception (the only memnber of staff that speaks English), this was one big let down. Staff are untrained and, at best, indifferent to guests needs. We spent way too much time hunting them down for basic rerquests like towels or drinks. Just not acceptable; we consider ourselves to be reasonable travellers but this just ground us down in the end. On the plus side, Bungalows are private-feeling and the rooms are by-and-large really pretty to stay in. The pool, though not always the cleanest, is large and refreshing in the heat of the day. But that's about it. Bathrooms are a horror story, with bad fixtures, broken shower rails and lights. Food is substandard throughout and whatever you do, don't order the Long Island Ice Tea from the abysmal cocktail menu - mine was actual Iced Tea as a base...I still shudder. Transfers into/out-of town are badly organised, and again you wait...and wait. This desperately needs good management to make it rteach it's potential and solid investment yto give it a kick up the scale - hand thge reins over to the excellent Say and let him make this resort as special as it deserves to be!
