Located in Ban Chan village, the resort is across the Mekong River and be reached in 30 minutes from the airport, halfway by car and then a short ferry ride. The resort is also the only place in the city making traditional pottery, and guests can try a hand or just be appreciative observers. At the riverside restaurant guests can enjoy local cuisine plus Asian and Western dishes. Guests can even choose to enjoy a meal in the open by the river. Communication and TLC could make this wonderful

Location, Views, Pool
Sometimes you just feel so mean when it comes down to having to write a review, and this is definitely one of those instances. I WANTED to like this hotel, I really did, but, just...sigh...it could be so much better. Look, the location can't be faulted. It's pretty, it's romantic, and it deserves to be so much more. But at the end of the day, with the exception of the wonderful Say on reception (the only memnber of staff that speaks English), this was one big let down. Staff are untrained and, at best, indifferent to guests needs. We spent way too much time hunting them down for basic rerquests like towels or drinks. Just not acceptable; we consider ourselves to be reasonable travellers but this just ground us down in the end. On the plus side, Bungalows are private-feeling and the rooms are by-and-large really pretty to stay in. The pool, though not always the cleanest, is large and refreshing in the heat of the day. But that's about it. Bathrooms are a horror story, with bad fixtures, broken shower rails and lights. Food is substandard throughout and whatever you do, don't order the Long Island Ice Tea from the abysmal cocktail menu - mine was actual Iced Tea as a base...I still shudder. Transfers into/out-of town are badly organised, and again you wait...and wait. This desperately needs good management to make it rteach it's potential and solid investment yto give it a kick up the scale - hand thge reins over to the excellent Say and let him make this resort as special as it deserves to be!

Awkward location

Setting, room, peace and quiet
The hotel is very nice but situated in a very difficult area to access. It takes a 10 minute taxi ride from the town centre, which is an hourly ferry service from the hotel, then '2' boats to cross the river to the hotel. While the staff were extremely helpful it was just awkward getting to and from the hotel.

Comfortable, quiet, off grid

Staff, villa, gardens
The staff were really wonderful to me. My first room was so noisy and disruptive from other guests that they moved me to a villa which was really lovely. I enjoyed being on the other side of the Mekong watching the river life for a day or two. I was very disappointed in the food and the prices were really high because it's the only place to eat as well, if you want to shop or see attractions you have to take a boat back and forth and a mini bus to town. Overall though, it was a very pleasant stay.

Very unsatisfying

Nothing really impressed me at this hotel
The hotel is on the Mekong river, on the opposite bank of the town of Luang Prabang and hard to reach. To reach the hotel you need to take a van (about 10 minutes ride) to reach a spot to descend a long stair, walk on a long jetty submerged by water to finally board a small boat and cross the river (depending on the water on the slippery stairs and jetty 15-20 minutes). When your Charon reaches the other jetty you climb another few minutes to reach Chantavinh "Resort & Spa". The hotel rooms compare to a 3-stars, the bathrooms are terrible, broken ceramic tiles, mildew-black bath tub curtain, no towel racks). We had dinner at the restaurant, the view was nice, food mediocre and service slow and sloppy. Out of 4 dishes ordered we received 2 and it took over 1 hour! The staff -with the exception of a proactive Front Desk person- is lacking training. Manager wanted! Breakfast during my 3 days at Chantavinh was a joke. Cangee, eggs, low quality jam and toasted bread. I ended up buying croissants for the next mornings at the Chanthaving owned "Salt & Pepper" restaurant in Luang Prabang and I cannot understand why they would not provide some decent breakfast at the hotel. The Internet connection works only by the Reception, not in the rooms, it is quite slow but that was expected. The hotel is NOT for persons with walking difficulties and elderly.

Nothing works and too far from center

Beautiful, in front of Mekong, Friendly
Too far from center. Need to take a boat to access the side of Mekong (city center), which is always available, but need to wake up the driver if coming back to the hotel after 11pm! Nothing worked in the hotel, even very basic things (wifi, hot water, etc.). A major disappointment.

paradise area

Away from the town, very friendly staff, boat ride to cross the Mekong River.
Very nice resort located away from town, this is what I was looking for,to get in and out of the resort you have to take a very comfortable boat ride to cross the Mekong River. It will be nice if the boat drop you in town, instead taking a van to town. My next trip to Luang Prabang definitily will stay in this resort again. Also the manager of the resort Xay,was very very helpful during our stay.
