gorgeous guesthouse in a great location

clean, friendly, helpful, kind

what a fantastic way to start our vacation! not only did chartfield guesthouse upgrade us twice while stayed (once upon arrival and again at the end of our stay), they were kind, helpful, and very friendly. the owner sat with us and mapped out a fantastic itinerary while in the cape town area and managed to hit everything we had hoped to do and more. the food is lovely, the coffee is flowing, the views we had from our room were breathtaking, and the town has a plethora of great eateries. it may seem like a bit out of the way from downtown but don't be deceived. kalk bay was a perfect spot of us to stay while visiting the area as most "tourist attractions" aren't necessarily downtown anyway. we would go back here in a heart beat!

Incredible View just steps to seaside walk

Comfy Beds, morning wake up with coffee of your choice!
9.7
This guesthouse is a charming small home with a mix of rooms, some overlooking the ocean. We had a good sized room with a king sized bed, and a large bathroom with tub (#7). Breakfast was not included, but the price was very reasonable for fresh fruit salad, muesli and coffee. We loved being so close to all the restaurants and shops nearby. Check out Olympia Deli for the bakery items and for a special dinner, make reservations at the Harbour House and get an Oceanside table and fresh seafood. Loved this place, and full recommendation for couples and families alike.
Restaurant Tip: Olympia Restaurant is fresh and Funky. Harbour House is a special Occasion location - don't miss out on an Oceanside table and make reservations.

Impersonal and generic

Nice big room, clean and comfortable

after a months travelling in south africa and staying in accommodation varying from 5-star to backpacker, this was the least appealing. the room was spacious and clean but the whole atmosphere was very impersonal and generic and there was no parking. totally forgettable and for the price, poor value.
Restaurant Tip: Check what the the roadwork situation is in Kalk Bay if you intend to stay more than just overnight. The street and footpath work (on a large scale) make it difficult to walk around and and less than pleasant to linger. We felt sorry for the business operators as nothing seems to have progressed much since we were there over a year ago.

great place, friendly staff, beautiful room

nice big room ; very helpful staff

This hotel was one of the best on our 2 weeks trip through south-africe. The room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated. We got a (free) coffee in the morning, was was a great thing to start the day. The location is also good, with a view on the harbour. I can really recommend this place
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: We went walking into the Silvermine Natural Parc. You get really nice views on the cape peninsula, hout bay, and the false bay!

Immaculate and very comfortable

Neatness, attention to detail, quality of furnishings and fittings

we loved pat & her husband's attention to detail and the immaculateness of her guest house. pat was attentive but not over-bearing and we enjoyed our stay.
Restaurant Tip: We found The Brass Bell Restaurant to be a little expensive for what was on offer in comparison to other restaurants of the same calibre, but the food was good and the setting exceptional.

Good view and central location

Central location

we enjoyed our stay at chartfield the views are good views of the harbour and it is in the centre of the town so really handy. it is also a good base for exploring the cape. it has a lot of steps so would not be ideal for those with mobility difficulties. it would benefit from tea and coffee making facilities in the room as we are very early birds and could not get a drink until breakfast. a long mirror in the room would also have been a bonus. the breakfast menu offered a very wide choice but during our 4 day stay our breakfast order was always wrong but just a minor issue i guess. overall a very pleasant stay.

Lovely guesthouse, perfect romantic getaway

Breakfast is fantastic, its small and service is very private, tea and coffee brought to your room in the morning free of charge.
8.7
Very few staff members so not a spoiled rotten, don't lift a finger kind of place but quiet and and cosy so definitely a small sacrifice.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Kalk bay is a gorgeous little fishing town with an amazing collection of botiques, restaurants and antiques. Take a walk along the street to the harbour and visit the brass bell (a famous SA spot)
