Quiet, Cheap and Clean

Great service, cheap and centrally located
I really liked this hostel. It's about 10 mins away from Kyoto Station. From Kyoto Station, exist through the central gate and walk down the street directly across from it. There's a Starbucks in the corner. It's the street right next to the Kyoto Tower Building. It will be on the right of the street. The hostel has shared bathroom which are always clean. I never had to wait to take a shower and they have several toilets and sinks. They also have kitchen facilities but I didn't use them. Our bedroom was on the second floor and it had an actual door, instead of the sliding ones. It had two twin futons on the tatami mat. They were very comfortable. There's a small table with two chairs, a TV and a small closet area. The room was very big and there was window that faced the temple across the street. Despite being a hostel, it was always quiet. The other visitors at the time sometimes congregated in the living area but were mostly gone to their rooms by 10pm. Keep in mind that the hostel has midnight curfew. We didn't mind, but if you like to stay out late, this might be an issue for you. I highly recommend this place.

It was clean, it was central.

Clean, friendly, great location
It appeared well priced, but considering the lack of services was probably over priced. I couldn't bring myself to use the bathroom to shower as it was dark and old. There is almost no security in the hotel.

average quality. not impressed

good location, good price
traditional bamboo floor room. however, we could hear noises from other rooms very clearly. we found it hard to sleep and were woken up early in the morning by the noise. the bathrooms are on the ground floor, which are fine, but seperate toilets are inconvenient.

one word, great!

good location, fast wifi access and great staff performance
Everything in this hotel is great.. Nice japanese style bathroom with bathtub, auntentic japanese tatami living room and dining room.. free wifi and free LAN internet at counter. About 1 mins walk to bicycles rental shop. We did had a great time with bicycle riding in the town as the hotel is just 3-5 mins walk to Kyoto Station. HIGHLY recommended to those who wish to stay at this historical town.

fantastic place to stay in a wonderful city

location, cleanliness and atmosphere
Experience Japanese style living by staying here for 4 days and 3 nights ... For Thai, it takes about 10-15 minutes walk from JR Kyoto train station ... The room is very clean, big size, decorated with tatami and futon laid down in the middle of the room. The room is big enough to have a tea corner (table with 2 cozy chairs) next to big sliding window. Higashi Honganji Temple is across the road from the back of the house. Although the house is old but it is with traditional charms. We really enjoyed our stay here ... peaceful & feel at home.

Great room, attentive English-speaking staff

Great location, comfortable room and futons, hostess spoke great English
The stay was excellent. Check in was simple, as the hostess speaks excellent English. The rooms are spacious and the futons are comfortable, and equipped with AC/heating, Wi-Fi, and TV. Japanese-style and western-style showers were both available, as well as both western and Japanese toilets. There is also access to washing machines and dryers to do laundry. The inn is also located not far from Kyoto Station, making traveling easy. Also right across the street from a massive Buddhist Temple.
