Near Sule Pagoda and the government offices, City Star Hotel is a good choice for visiting most of what Yangon has in its downtown district. Within a short walk is the lovely Sule Pagoda which is best visited in the morning since it tends to heat up in the afternoon as the bright sunlight reflects off all the shiny brass and gold. The spectacular Bogyoke Market is a great place to visit, and there are several lovely coffee shops nearby for a relaxing iced coffee. The hotel has a few restaurants that serve Suki, Chinese, and European fare and do so with style. Similarly the rooms are all decorated with traditional teak wood, although somewhat simply decorated. There is a business center and it offers Internet access, but this can be kind of tricky in Yangon and Myanmar in general. Big room with too basic amenities

Location location location
It was below average and I must say it. The location was the only thing why you should choose this hotel. At night after 9:30p.m., the hotel area becomes a dead town, seriously. They aren't any eateries or convenient stores at night. The room was rather huge but the amenities were very limited. The water was not hot even though it offered a room with bathtub. The breakfast was not the best but was good to make up for the night in the hotel room.

Not a good value for the money

I stated at the City Star due to it being one of the official hotels on the Myanmar government list of authorized hotels in procuring an evisa. This place is severely dated - circa - 1980s or maybe 1970s and I moved the next day to another hotel which cost a bit less but which was new modern and a way better value. I don't recommend this hotel. Overpriced and very dated. Much better value else where.

Average hotel in good location

location, elevator, generator
By Myanmar standards this is a decent hotel. Rooms have a bathtub. No English TV. Walking distance to Sule Pagoda, Scott Market, train station. Yangon hotels are expensive so don't expect much.

clean, but rooms not very appealing for the price

location, staff
The cleaness was OK, but like many hotels in Yangoon, too exensive for an not very nice rooms. Good things, the staff prepared us a take away breafast cause we left at 6 am morning

The room is ok, but location is great.

Location, location and helpful staff
It was a short visit. I think it is a bit overpriced (considering what you can get in another neighboring country for the same money) but the location is great and so is the staff.

Not to Western Standard

Location, hot water, laundry service, clean sheets, (4 things)
How can everyone who reviewed this hotel give it the rating you did. This hotel was no where near average but below average in rating, standard & price. The food was a disgrace so we had to eat outside instead. (just view their kitchen!) The staff tried their best to please. They are a beautiful humble people whom I love dearly. This hotel was filthy. I am a builder for 30 years now and the dacor was 60 years behind, dangerous live wires hanging down in the corridors at arms length away, horrible sewer fumes in bathrooms due to bad incorrect sewer plumbing works, cigarette fumes from adjoining rooms overwhelm the non smoking rooms, the screaming dogs and teenagers playing football throughout the night was not a plus, the plastic shower screen was filthy with mould attached, & the tv set had very bad reception. Most the time the place was empty & it reflects why? In conclusion With just a little care & upkeep, a great paint job, a change of carpets, & an upgade in food quality standard this place would thrive as its location & people are excellent. Its all got to do with management. I hope this note was not too harsh, please adjust if necessary so as to not offend. Thanks
