Boston (MA)

Boston's history dates back to the 1600s when colonists first settled in America. The town was founded by English Purists and has featured strongly throughout American history. Today, it's a cosmopolitan city with scores of colleges in the Greater Boston area, including Harvard, MIT and Suffolk University. Perhaps due to its identity as a city of higher learning, Boston has played and continues to play a major role in modern politics, with many of the country's leading figures either hailing from, or educated in, Boston. Boston is also where many film and literary stars called home, including Sylvia Plath, Jack Kerouac and Robert Frost.

Downtown Boston comprises many historic buildings, the most prolific of which can be discovered on foot by following a path called the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail intersects with the Black Heritage Trail, which passes through various pre-Civil War sites. Understandably, Boston city center hotels are frequently booked solid, due to their proximity to Boston University and Boston Commons. The Fenway/Kenmore area is also popular with visitors due to its convenience to downtown Boston, Fenway Park stadium and various colleges of note.

The economic and cultural center of New England, Boston is a wonderfully diverse city. Aside from education, Boston is strongly represented in sports (The Boston Red Sox for baseball), music (hard punk and ska punk were said to have originated here) and the area of finance (the Bank of America is headquartered in Boston). For lovers of golf, the Boston's green countryside is home to several courses, such as Boston Golf Club and the Geoff Wright Golf Course.

Flying into Boston, visitors will land at Logan International Airport in East Boston, just over the bridge from the city center.
