  1. More about Chuncheon-si

Chuncheon is the capital of Gangwon province in northeastern South Korea, and is a favorite weekend getaway for Seoul’s residents or travelers who need a little break from the bustling city. This quiet, picturesque city is the perfect antidote to the noise and excitement of the big city, and being just a three-hour drive from Incheon International Airport, the city is easy enough to reach either by car or bus.

Also known as South Korea’s national treasure, Cheongpyeong-Sa Temple dates back to the year 975. The walk up to the mountain takes the visitor through a picturesque valley and alongside a stream. This is one of the most beautiful sites in the country, and the hike isn’t one that can’t be done even by a novice hiker. While the walk up to the temple is possible to undertake, there is also a ferry leaving from Soyang Dam and arriving at the temple site. This is also a viable option, and an equally scenic, if not as physically demanding, method of seeing this regions stunning natural landscape.

Gongjicheon Sculpture Park is an outdoor art space, featuring many sculptures and monuments to Korean life, complete with a replica of an ancient water clock. Rent a paddle boat for cruising around the river, or just enjoy a simple picnic in the park while taking in the scene of locals and visitors taking relaxing walks in the park.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Chuncheon, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
