Top areas in Fujairah
The emirate of Fujairah is the youngest of the United Arab Emirates and caters more to the business-oriented traveler, although the tourist can still find several things to do. The easternmost airport of the region, Fujairah International Airport services those looking to fly in. Coming in by road from Dubai is also a convenient option with only a two-hour ride to reach Fujairah.
The layout of the city doesn’t cater to the pedestrian with mostly main roads, and taxis provide an efficient means to get around. This arrangement serves the mostly business crowd that visits the city as well as tourists using the city as a base to explore the area. Fujairah’s coast makes for a better port, but 30km away is the city of Dibba with beaches and sea sports. The Gulf of Oman hosts many islands that make for excellent excursions and fishing destinations.
Despite being primarily business oriented, there are a few sites that demand a visit. The centuries old Al Badiyah Mosque and nearby lookout towers make up a designated historic area that is enchanting during both the day and night. The emirate’s landscape is captivating on its own and really sets the scene for other historic sites such as Fujairah Fort and the Heritage Village.
