Located in the Musandam Peninsula of Oman, Khasab is a quiet city on the coast, just northwest of the more popular Muscat. The city is best accessed by air, arriving directly at Khasab Airport, as driving can present a challenge for non-local visitors, given the possibility for complications at different border crossings. From Muscat, it’s also possible to take a ferry directly to Khasab, and there are many hotels within easy reach of Khasab Port.
The quiet city of Khasab is often frequented by Omanis looking for a few days of relaxation by the beach, but it can also serve as an alternative beach getaway for international travelers as well. Because this area enjoys a rich history and unique architectural heritage, there are many opportunities to explore ancient forts and other structures that are increasingly harder to find around the world. Travelers to Khasab should not miss a chance to see and walk around the Khasab Castle and Fort, which was built long age by the Portuguese and is now a museum housing a great deal of the area’s history.
