  1. More about Klerksdorp

The city of Klerksdorp was just a small community back in 1837, but the discovery of gold in 1886 drew thousands of prospectors to the area. A large mining and agricultural economy thrives today and is complemented by the history of the city as well as the captivating atmosphere of South Africa. The city is about 185km southwest of Johannesburg, reachable via the N12 Treasure Route.

Time spent in Klerksdorp can be spent between the historical sites, the natural splendor, and the industry of the city. The mining shafts of Goudkoppie, Klerksdorp Mine Tours, and the Stock Exchange show off the history of the area, and so too do the Old Cemetery and Jack Scott House. The 11km Ou Dorp Hiking Trail puts you out amongst nature while showing off the early homes of the Voortrekker families that settled the area. Faan Meintjies Nature Reserve and Plant House both provide something for the true nature lovers. Fly-fishing and horse trails are a couple of the recreational opportunities that can be had in Klerksdorp.
