Kuantan

Kuantan is the capital of Pahang state on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Kuantan has many beautiful beaches and is a popular holiday destination for Malaysians, with growing popularity in terms of international tourism. The main drawcard of Kuantan is its beaches. Kuantan Airport, though small, has regular connections with Kuala Lumpur and Singapore although domestic tourists often arrive overland – the drive from Kuala Lumpur is only 2.5 hours.

Most Kuantan accommodation is, located on the beachfront, but there are also hotels in the city center. The area's most popular beaches are Teluk Chempedak and Balok Beach. The latter is famed throughout Malaysia for its windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing. Other attractions of Kuantan include Pulau Ular – Snake Island – a short boat ride off shore. Legend has it that the island’s snake population protected its inhabitants from pirates. Sungai Lembing town is where one of the world’s biggest underground tin mines is located. Though the mine is no longer operational, it's still open to public for guided tours, and has an attached museum.
