Discover the neighborhoods of Malmo
This port city on the south coast of Sweden is the country’s third largest. With strong ties to neighboring Denmark, this largely gentrified city is one of the most multicultural in Scandinavia. Sporting impressive architecture spanning several centuries, Malmo's parks, old buildings, and harbor front make it a place of serene and beautiful landscapes. Malmo Airport is 28 kilometers from Malmo and around 50 kilometers from Copenhagen.
One of Malmo's most striking features is one it shares with Copenhagen. The two cities are linked by the eight-kilometer Orestrund Bridge, and many of Malmo's residents make the trip daily for work. Malmo's main point of convergence is the Big Square – Stororget. It's here that many of the city's best restaurants and bars are located, with the beautiful Slottsparken Park not far away.
History buffs will find Malmohus Castle a compelling landmark. Built in 1437, the castle was once a residence for Danish royalty and is now a museum. Beach bunnies can head to Ribersborgs Stranden Beach - popular both in summer and winter. In winter, locals take part in ice swimming, an activity best coupled with a trip to the kallbadhus – a sauna located at the east end of the beach. Golf is also a popular pastime in Malmo, owing to the city's flat terrain and clear weather.
