  1. More about Nagarkot

Located on the outside border of Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, just over 30 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu is this sleepy village that attracts travelers from around the world, who all flock there in search of the town’s stunning mountain views. As it’s so close to Kathmandu, the smartest way to get to Nagarkot is by bus, arriving at Nagarkot Bus Station, which is located right on the main road within easy reach of most of the hotels in the area. The more adventurous trekkers may also choose to simply trek to Nagarkot from Kathmandu, as it’s within manageable distance and the views along the way are certainly worth the effort.

The most popular activity in Nagarkot is simply looking at the mountains. The famous Mount Everest is sometimes visible from some of the high points, especially on a clear day. In the mornings, one should not miss watching the sun rise over the mountains. It’s truly a breathtaking view that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

The hills of Nagarkot are thickly covered by pine trees, and the atmosphere is not too elevated for those who aren’t acclimated to high altitude, but high enough to offer some of the cleanest and freshest air in the world. If planning to step out to explore some of the town, perhaps take a leisurely trek through the Jalapadevi Temple Trail, which has the benefit of exploring a local temple while also enjoying the outdoor greenery.

The Kali Devi Temple is a great place to take part in some of Nepal’s religious culture, and is easy to reach on foot from much of the village. Most of the hotels in Nagarkot are very experienced with international tourists who make the trek from Kathmandu, and can recommend the best trails and tour guides if necessary.
