Discover the neighborhoods of Port Macquarie
On the Mid North Coast of New South Wales is the large town of Port Macquarie. It offers an interesting history as well as some classic Australian treats. The area is serviced by Port Macquarie Airport, but lovers of the rail can take a train from Sydney to Wauchope, a town about 20 minutes away. Within the city, bus routes and walking are the best way to get around as the central business district is compact and within the vicinity of dining, shopping, and attractions.
The history of the area is what makes Port Macquarie unique. The maritime history can be explored at the Mid North Coast Maritime Museum, and the Old Courthouse features historical items. The Port Macquarie Historic Graveyard was the burial site for early settlers of the area and is a great place to wander about, especially if you are heading to the Koolonbung Creek Nature Reserve. A night tour should also be experienced at the Sea Acres Rainforest Center as this national park features a range of Australia’s nocturnal wildlife. Other attractions include Town Green, a beautiful park on the river in the central business district, and whale watching at The Lighthouse is popular during the whale’s migratory season.
