The city of Tiberias is one that thrives on tourism, thanks to its diversity of opportunities, from simply wandering the ancient holy sites of the city to taking part in extreme water sports and then taking in the natural powers of the hot springs that have made the area famous of thousands of years. Tiberias is set on the shores of Lake Kineret and can be reached by bus from several cities, including Haifa where Haifa Airport can be found.
Tiberias is one of Judaism’s Four Holy Cities, and as such, an abundance of Christian holy sites and the burial sites of Jewish sages can be found here. The Old City boasts a number of such sites, including a Jewish ritual bath and the St. Peter’s Church. Hamat Tiberias National Park celebrates the area’s 2,000-year old spa history and contains a museum that was originally part of a Turkish bath. The promenade, the city’s famous fish market, and several mosques are also popular sites that draw so many to this lively city.
With Tiberias being used to catering to the traveler, there is plenty of accommodation, from the shorefront to the main street.
