Cheap and cheerful

The willingness of the staff
I enjoyed my stay at Clove Garden. The staff were very accommodating and arranged a driver for me, organised washing and were concerned when I didn't finish my breakfast! I wasn't hungry - the breakfast was great! I had a really sense that the staff cared about the guest and wanted to deliver a great experience. Overall great value and a great experience.

Middle range hotel but a little dingy

Really nice staff
A good priced hotel but a bit dingy - they should get new shower curtains and update the bedding. But otherwise a good choice for that area!

nice surroudings but room wasn't so impressive

nice garden, friendly staff
We were surprised a bit by how remote it was but also amazed by the greens around the house - natrual look. but the room isn't so nice. it's ok to be small and simple but it was too damp which i really hated... breakfast looked really nice but didn't have time to eat.. friendly staff.

Great hotel in quiet location

Seperate kids room adjoined to ours, quiet, friendly
Our 2 day stay was relaxed and enjoyable. The rooms are bright and airy and clean and in a quiet area. Our hostess made sure we had all we wanted. the tea on arrival was welcomed. the garden great for my son to play cricket in and the food was good - curry for us and spaghetti for the kids.

Basic hotel, great breakfast with a friendly smile

Gardens, breakfast and service
This small guesthouse has very basic clean rooms surrounded by a beautiful garden area. My wife and I stayed for two days and on both morning I was woken by the birds chirping outside our room which was a pleasant surprise. The location is in one of the main hotel areas on the out skirts of kandy. The hotel is really focused on giving good service with a smile. The owners have a visible hands on approach to training their staff. This is possibly the best service I experienced during my 3 weeks in srilanka. The breakfast was simple but a delicious surprise.

People who run the place make it a wonderful exp

Owners, cleanliness, home-like interior
This is actually built on the land of the owner's ancestral home. It's lovely home-stay feel and small number of rooms make it perfect for some peace and quiet from the touristy bustle of Kandy town. Rooms are comfortable for Kandy hotel standards; staff here are attentive and provide top-notch care for though you're family instead of guest! I'd highly recommend the place if you don't mind the travel up by 3-wheeler from the town. Must have: their home-cooked dinner for a steal of USD7/pax

Lovely hotel grounds, absolute rubbish city

Buildings and Gardens
This hotel was fine, some lovely gardens in a quiet spot. Though boy is Kandy one boring boring place to visit. Bordering on a travesty of a location, it is probably worth about 30 minutes of your time, seriously. Perhaps the best advice given would be to skip it, indeed skip Sri Lanka as a holiday destination. Completely overrated and very very underwhelming.

Good for relaxing - worth every dollar

Location nestled in a wooded area, attentive staff, good breakfast
We reached late in the evening by train from Colombo. The cab from the station to Clove Garden was LKR 600, seemed more distant than it appeared on Google Maps. There is another property in the same compound - Sweet Cinnamon. The Clove Garden staff were very helpful and showed us our room - clean and simple. All amenities - bath, hot water, wi-fi in good condition. Breakfast was a high point on both days. No Sri Lankan breakfast though. Its a short, uphill walk to the the nearest auto stand. The staff will call for tuk-tuks or taxis if required. The location is the high point - silent, wooded, well-maintained grounds.
