Very pleasant

Greg, Horhe, dogs
Greg and Horhe are very pleasant and helpful. I wouldn't let the location scare you either if you are not scared of taking the occasional cab, but it is also within a mile radius of a number of things, which I consider walking distance. It is a home and not a hotel though, so don't expect a hotel. But who wants to stay in a hotel when you could stay in a home?

Unique Guest House

Owner, owner, owner
Don't expect a "normal" hotel when you book into Coco's Garden Guestroom. It's more a pleasant and very unique private Villa where the owner Greg decided once to make it available for some guests. So forget all about fancy high end rooms or equipment, the assets here are elsewhere to find. The room is old fashioned but with a very private touch. The bathroom is functional and also old fashioned. The owner Greg is a very nice and friendly guy with a huge knowledge about history and where to go in Manila. If you get along with him, which is easy, he's very supportive and tells you more when you have dinner and a beer together. It's more like you visit a friend of a friend, I enjoyed it there. If you want a "normal" hotel with all kind of services, than it's the wrong place for you.

Pleasant and comfortable

Quiet, staff, gardens
This is a unique place, an old style house in a quiet side street. The house is beautiful and the garden around it calm and cool. Greg and Jorge the owners are friendly and great cooks, and happy to sit and talk or share a drink. The room I had was vast, with several fans, a huge bed and antique style furnishings, very nice. The atmosphere is quite informal and there is the chance to meet all sorts of people staying at or visiting the house. The location is not exactly close to the airport but that is not a real issue. There are bus terminals nearby and taus can be hailed from the nearby main street. Staying here will let you see a bit of real Manila, rather than the touristy and seedy main streets of Malate or the wealth of Makati. The hotel is quite hard to find, and taxi drivers have no clue, so get detailed instructions from Greg beforehand. This place is ideal for solo travellers and couples and I was surprised to find a place like it in Manila, a great discovery!

Coco's Garden Guesthouse

Beautiful room, heritage house, quiet garden surroundings
This was probably the most beautiful room I've stayed in in Manila - and I've been to a lot of hotels in Metro Manila (from budget to 5 star). The property is a restored period house (pre-war colonial house) with appropriate furniture, decorations and fitting for that period. I've always hoped that there would be places like this opening up in Manila - restored and renovated period, heritage houses - and this is the best one I've stayed in. I'd even rate the room higher than those in the Manila Hotel itself! The room was huge - with dark hardwood flooring, lots of big windows looking out to the oasis of a garden, and antique hard wood furniture. The house is set within a garden with big trees, so it's very cool and very quiet considering you are in Manila! Now the downside - although the house is fairly close to Paco Park, and fairly close to Robinsons Otis Supermarket, it's in quite an awkward position - not really close to any of the usual touristy places or restaurants. It's quite a tricky place to find, and taxi drivers won't know where it is! Always take a smart phone with maps on it to locate the place. I would not recommend this place to a first timer in Manila (chose Makati first of all), but for someone who knows Manila well and wants to try a different place - this is a very very nice place!

surprises but confort

quiet, friendly and cleanness
there is no signboard and name in this place. that's why taxi could not find this place. and better don't expect same as a big hotels. you might think its a room renting of private house. but this old house makes you relax and calm. this is not possible to get from other hotels in manila. i'm sure this place will give you a nice experience and unforgettable memory of travel.

A wonderful guesthouse

The colonial atmosphere
Wonderful guesthouse. A little bit far from the center of Manila but if you are looking for peace and want to experiment a former colonial atmosphere, it is a wonderful stopping place. Greg and his team made an terrific work in this house and it is a perfect host. Highly recommended.

Unforgettable house & persons welcome you

Very independent in a good distance persons live in an elegant old manila house
i feel really lucky thinking back of my 2nights stay in manila at the coco's garden guestroom. it wasn't even “guest room” but was more like staying in an old manila gorgeous house for me. a couple was both so elegant having their own style that made my part of stay in a comfortable way. if you want to have an unforgettable stay in manila, this is the place. a wise young man from philippine and a knowledgably gentleman from america will welcome you in a special way

What's nearby? / Directions

What's nearby?
  • Founded in 1580 by Franciscan missionaries, Paco was on the outskirts of the Spanish walled city of Intramuros. Originally the area was called Dilao (yellow) and later San Fernando de Dilao as it soon became an enclave of a settlement of 350-400 Catholic expatriate Japanese, whose numbers swelled over the next two decades to around 3000. Having escaped much of the bombing and artillery damage that destroyed most of the city of Manila during the liberation battle of February 1945, Paco is home to the 19th-century Paco Park, Plaza Dilao, churches, and old homes on tree-lined streets.

Take the Osmena Highway north to its end and turn right onto Quirino Avenue. At the second signal, President Quirino Avenue Extension, turn left and follow the traffic to the right. After the second signal, turn right onto Penafrancia Extension after passing West Zamora. The alley on the right is ours. Please be aware that the street signage in our area is WRONG. There is a children's playground at the intersection nearest our house. MAKE SURE THAT THE PLAYGROUND IS ON YOUR RIGHT AS YOU ENTER OUR STREET. The nearest landmarks to us are the St Peter Catholic Church and St. Peter Catholic School.
