Pleasant relaxing stay

Sandy beach location, landscaped gardens, friendly staff
Enjoyed our week long stay at the Coral View Villas and would consider returning although I think there are better value for money options available. As a couple we stayed in a family bungalow because there were no double rooms available for our stay without changing rooms. There was a double room on the upper level and twins downstairs with a garden bathroom. Great view from the upstairs bedroom and the bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Gardens are well maintained - just a shame that the was no loungers scattered around the garden to relax in, only 8 loungers cramped together by the pool. There is no beach frontage owned by the hotel - this is filled with the local fisherman's boats and as soon as you walk out of the hotel onto the beach you are enthusiastically greeted by a string of people trying to sell you something. Luckily Coral view has a sister property just along the beach which does have a limited number of loungers on the grass at the edge of the beach and more around the pool. Snorkelling off the beach is ok; nice array of fish but don't expect to see much live coral - definitely no comparison to Egypt for example. Breakfast at Coral View is pretty poor - the only saving grace was the excellent cappuccino which came with a delicious coconut buscuit - but this was at additional cost and the home made bread. Local coffee (and tea) is included with breakfast with an unimaginative fruit selection, yoghurt (or milk if you arrive after 9am at breakfast when it has melted in the sun) and eggs or pancake cooked to order (no accompaniment to the egg at all). Lunch and dinner were much better - great mix of local and western food which was tasty and well presented. Staff were very friendly and service prompt. Lots of plus points about this hotel but depending on the rate at the time, I would consider their sister property hidden Cottages, or the Puri Wirata hotel about 15 mins down the road(although the beach is pebbly here not sandy).

Perfect place for snorkeling

Location, location n location
Excellent service, seafront villa. Terrace lounge sofas. Beautiful gardens. Perfect spot for relaxation. Music bar nearby at night filled w local boys seeking foreign female companion.

Nice for families but the service is low

Location, maintenance, shadowed garden
Nice hotel for families as the rooms are big, nice garden and pool with shadows. It is well located in in front of the beach with great snorkelling. The food of the restaurant has to be improved but it's okay. The bad point is the service. The staff is not welcoming neither helpful. It is quite surprising as Balinese people are so welcoming everywhere on the island except in this hotel.

Amed with a touch of luxury

The bathroom was outstanding with so much room and space for hanging wet clothes. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The location on the beach was great for snorkelling.
Enjoyed the environment and staff were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were very spacious, the air-con worked well and it was the most relaxing part of my stay on Bali. No shops or distractions.

Great place for snorkeling

Location, atmosphere, snorkeling
We enjoyed the place. The beach right outside has great snorkeling, and other options are within reach. The restaurant has reasonable prices and good food. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, but did the job. Nice swimming pool, but we only used it a couple of times. The beach is a nicer option. Not sure if it's the best value for money around. Plenty of competition in the area, though not in the same little bay. The beach is sandy, but it's volcanic sand. Other beaches in the area are pebbles. With little kids, this was quite the advantage.

Good hotel in a great position

Beachfront, great sea views, beautiful grounds and pool
We enjoyed our relaxing stay at Coral View. The staff were helpful, our bungalow comfortable with an attractive and spacious outdoor bathroom, and the beachfront position hard to beat! The pool and grounds were beautiful and well maintained and we were also impressed by the quality of the reefs at either end of the beach...better coral and more fish than we were expecting!

relaxing nice hotel on the beach

beach / peacefull / good price
nice hotel on the beach - good food at the restaurant / breakfast very simple / from here you can get massages from the people on the beach and snorkeling trip with the local fisherman - good week end there - a motocycle can be usefull to visit the area

Sleepy snorkelling haven

Amed is a well kept secret. Great snorkelling just steps away from the hotel. Lacked a view of the water from most of the rooms

Perfect Bali hideaway

Amed/Lipah Bay is a world away from the busier parts of Bali. The hotel has two decent snorkelling areas right off the beach. The staff are friendly and responsive.
We travelled as a group of three couples and two young children (8 and 1.5 years old), and occupied two deluxe rooms and a 2-br family room. The rooms are clean, with renovated outdoor bathrooms. Professional staff are responsive to our requests, and were all too happy to volunteer playing with our toddler son so that we could finish eating dinner, etc. The restaurant is well set up, and the menu is typical of what's on offer in the area. Food quality generally was good, particularly for Indonesian dishes. The head chef was attentive and helpful with special food requests (one member of our group had a seafood allergy, whilr another is allergic to nuts). As for activities, we mostly snorkeled and swam in the sea. Currents were very manageable for our 8-yr-old daughter. The pool was also a very nice facility, and we had a couple of lunch sessions poolside. There isn't much else happening in the area besides snorkeling or diving, but one of our group did get to travel with some hotel staff to a local cockfighting event and reported back that it was an interesting excursion. If you're content to get away and just relax, with diving or snorkeling thrown in, Amed is ideal and Coral View Villas would be a good value-for-money home base.
