Quiet comfort in the mountains

Just a couple of bus stops from Seorak Mtn, easy access to public transportation, spacious rooms, quiet.
The owner of Dae Cheong is very kind and made my stay comfortable and pleasant. They are located just a 5 minute bus ride from Seorak national park. If you are looking for a quiet, clean place to stay where no one will bother you, this is it.

Dae Cheong Resortel

Terrible! Never want to go back. The town around the resort is depressing. All the hotels around it are abandoned and closed down. The only good thing was the owner. He tried really hard to be nice but I don't recommend it unless you like abandoned, lonely town.

Good enough for a countryside hotel

Friendly owner, spacious room, proximity to park
The room is spacious but the hotel is a bit run down. The toilet stinks a little. The owner is very friendly and he offers to drive me to Seoraksan Park or the Socho beach. It is closed to both park and the beach. You can hop on the local bus to go to places.

Old, not very pleasant

Close to the bus station, it was one of the few that were open, close to Seoraksan
Note this is not the same hotel about which the reviews older than May 2014 are written. That was the Daechung Resortel and though the hotel claims to have been merely renamed to Furumae Resortel, this is not true: it is a physically different building about 1 minute walk away from the Daechung Resortel (you can use the same directions as described in other posts to get there). This I discovered when I stood in front of a blacked out Daechung Resortel hotel, trying to read in the dark an unlit piece of paper on the door explaining the circumstances in less than perfect English. The Furumae Resortel is an ancient, badly maintained building. Everything looks dated and crappy - I had to kick the door in order to open it. Guests have written on the walls and furniture. In some cases pieces of wallpaper have been pasted over presumably the worst bits. The floor was heated - with a capital H, like living in a furnace without an open window. My first night it was quite stormy, and the hotel creaked throughout the night, providing a less than safe feeling. The hotel caters to tour groups so you will wake up to the sound of buses revving and people yelling. Wifi signal was ridiculously weak (only worked in a particular corner of the room). The small fridge worked, but not at a stable temperature - it froze a bottle of water. The shower head is attached to the faucet of the sink, so if you accidentally leave the tap in the wrong position and open it to wash your hands, you'll get a nice surprise shower. The water pressure was low. The hotel had a sort of filth that had soaked itself into all surfaces until it had become part of the environment. Any cleaning efforts (which I'm not sure were undertaken in my room in the two days I was there) then only serve to polish the dirt. On the plus side, the Seoraksan national park is an easy 30 minute walk away (or take a bus, but in the morning crowds that's not much faster).

pleasant night

Wi Fi, Seoraksan view from window, the attentive owner
it's easily accessible by Sokcho bus (7 or 7-1). Bus fare from Dongbu Express terminal is KRW1,300. You can stop at Seorak-C-chi gu bus-stop. Press the stop-button, when you saw Youth Hostel on your left. When the bus reached the bus stop, You have to cross the road walking towards the Youth hostel. Then, you will find Tourist Map location (in Korean) near the road. Furumae Resortel(or Purumae in Korean) is number 28. You follow the map & you'll find the place. I loved the view from my deluxe double room, where i could see the Seoraksan. The walk to the Seoraksan entrance gate will take 40 minutes. But, you will love the walk. The view was so great

Walking distance to Seorak trailheads

Location, Cleanliness, Quiet
Be aware that there is no sign for this hotel in Roman characters, you'll need to be able to sound it out in Hongul, or have the taxi take you to the address. From the hotel, it is walking distance to the main trailheads at Seoraksan. My room was huge - 2 full sized beds and headed floors with bed mats for an additional 6 people. Probably a 5-10 minute drive to the beach.

Huge Room. Great Price

Cheap, Easy, Friendly
We enjoyed our stay at the Daechung Resortel. It is not the easiest to find without GPS, but settling in was easy. We were nervous because the booking said 2 people, but we had 3. This wasn't a problem at all though, as long as you are willing to sleep on the floor (Korean Style). The owner was very friendly and even gave us a ride to Seoraksan park for hiking the next morning. The hot water took a long time to warm up (I was afraid we would go without) but eventually it wasn't a problem, though the water pressure was scant. The room has a refrigerator and it is nice and close to the mountain for hiking. Comfortable and Friendly.

Basic, clean hotel in very quiet area

Very quiet, room was quite clean, the owner was nice, although no English skills
Hotel was very plain and quiet, we stayed in June and think we were the only people staying there (the whole area was very quiet, like a ghost town with other hotels closed). The room is basic but seemed clean. The area around Seoraksan is very beautiful however and worth visiting. If you want a simple basic and quiet hotel then this hotel may suit.
