The hotel staff were really warm and friendly and did everything possible to ensure that we had a good stay. Our room was a little outdated and in need of updating - furniture, carpet etc. The hilltop pool was lovely and beautiful views. If I returned I would pick one of the suites next to the hilltop pool, not much extra but new and really nicely furnished.

Lovely hotel and service with a smile
very pleasant to stay with peacefull and nice surrounding area.the room is big and spacious,clean and lovely room. the breakfast have lots of choice and marvelous we enjoy it.thank for the'customer service staff'excellent service! far from town but the price you get is superb and excited!enjoy with beach and great resort.
The Sarawak Cultural village while a novel idea is badly maintain, and the admission charge is RM60/pax, no value. The houses are all in disrepair. No real guides there to provide any background. Most of the houses are empty left to your own to explore. The only saving grace is the cultural show in an air con auditorium. You'll have to be early as seats were eagerly snapped up, probably there was a group tour there. The hawker centre at 101 (you'll have to get a local to get you there, it's in Kuching town about 10 mins from the airport) offer a fascinating variety of food, delicious and reasonable price. Not too touristy, many locals still go there. The market starts with s (name misses me) is also a great experience. Opens only on Sat and Sun morning, is an endless road of stalls selling all manner or produce. Definitely worth a visit.

great location in a resort showing signs of age
location / view from room / facilities
idyllic location between mountain and sea, great beach. good value for money restaurant, varied and copious breakfast buffet.
however, the resort is showing signs of age: issues with electricity (meter tripped when i plugged the kettle in), some maintenance needed in terms of painting / redecorating the accommodation, water leaks in several areas in the accommodation and others besides it.
shuttle minivans to hilltop is a great service but the minivans need replacing (noisy, shabby and dirty).
all in all, we had a great time but would reclassify as 3 star (not 4 as advertised).
behind the resort, a new shopping complex has recently opened in front of Surawak Cultural Village. The 7/11 convenience store is open 24 hour, but they do not sell alcohol.
The restaurant facing the sea in the shopping complex is very priced, but the food court is very cheap but basic.

Great hotel and service
beautiful property, nice beach, large rooms, pleasant service
we were greeted upon arrival with ample help getting our bags to our room. inside the family suite was a personalized note of welcome accompanied by some fruit. the room was in nice shape, very clean with a nice balcony and view of palm trees. our only complaint was that the a/c in the upper room was not cooling properly. actually the lower room's a/c wasn't working at first but after a call to the front desk a staff member had it blowing ice cold air within 15 minutes. this hotel cools water at a location a few hundred meters away. this water arrives at the various units via underground piping in order to cool the rooms. we were located the furthest distance away from the source of cold water and therefore cold a/c. the service more than made up for this. our youngest son had some food poisoning from a hot-dog (not from the hotel but from a mall an hour away). when he vomited on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night and we called the front desk, a man showed up to clean it within 15 minutes. we felt bad calling in the middle of the night but we had nothing to clean with; he did a great job of not only cleaning but disinfecting as well; the bathroom smelled fresh afterwards. the staff are friendly and accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful location.

Hotel with toilet that stinks of urine
Was at this hotel twice this year, 1st in April where I stayed in the family suite and 2nd time in a chalet.
Really liked the set up & design of the family suite. Children bed was nicely done and my kid really loved it. I liked the idea of the suite being 2 floors.
However, toilets on both floor stank of urine as if toilet wasnt flushed or someone urinated on the floor and wasnt cleaned. I guess there was problem with the piping system. Didn't bother to lodge a complaint though.
2nd stay at the chalet had the same problem - toilet which stank of urine. It was peak season and no spare rooms to switch. I guess the hotel management had a funny way of welcoming their guests - by using urine smell to deodorize their rooms!
Another inconvenience encountered during my 2nd stay is the ridiculously long queue to check out. Guests had to line up to check out one by one. There's no key drop system for quick check out.
Thirdly, guests are allowed to wear anything into the pool. Nothing was done to stop this. I've seen guests wearing non swimwear and jumping into the pool. Also seen guests littering their cigarette butts at the pool area. Nothing done also and unfortunately, there are irresponsible guests staying there.
Fourthly, reception doesn't seem to know how to handle their guests well. When presented with questions, they just like to say "5 mins, 5 mins" which turn out to be 15 to 30 mins.
Overall, for a 4-star hotel, experience is a total letdown. Next time I'll just do a day trip and not stay at the hotel.

Great views and pool experience
The Top Pool at the top of the hill
excellent couple of days, our room we booked were the seaview delux rooms at the top of the hill, away from the crowds in the main hotel section. this area at the top of the hill, had a great pool, with views over the mountain forest and ocean. only downside is the walk down and up the hill to get to the main hotel sections, although there is a shuttle bus running regularly.
avoid the market in Kuching, far better to spend your time in the areas around the hotel

Friendly service - tired resort
Close to the Damai Golf club
Booked for three nights for a wedding anniversary. Resort turned out to be very tired (built in the 80's) and not very well maintained. The staff were friendly and capable, however the distance from Kuching (45 minutes ride on fairly lumpy tarsealed roads) made it a exhausting experience to do anything other than stay at the resort.
Food didn't rise beyond mediocre. Had a chalet room close to the beach. Bed was rock hard, bathroom didn't smell the best.
We still enjoyed our weekend - played golf at Damai - beautiful setting, however very wet course with many temporary greens when we were there due to new greens being prepared. Played tennis (run down court, sagging net, holes in fence)
There is little to no nightlife or external dining options around this resort Apart from a foodcourt and single restaurant at the recently completed "Damai Central" complex next door.
While we were stying the place felt fairly deserted - in spit of it getting very busy during the day times over the weekend due to easter weekend.
To do anything you have to travel into Kuching which is RM60 one way by taxi or RM12 per person one way by the scheduled hotel shuttle buses.
We spent a lovely couple of hours at the Sarawak cultural village - a stones throw from the resort. Wortwhile to get a glimpse of the different tribes that make up malaysia's indigenous peoples.
The Kuching waterfront is lovely at night. Arrive at around 6:30 and stroll around as the sun sets, and hang about until dark. Lovely relaxing, safe environment.

Wonderful view but drab hotel
It's as bad as some of reviews stated, and more.
The lobby I would think would be the place you would give the wow welcome! was sadly dimly lit, no concierge service; given the rooms need a shuttle service to be reached. Just a sad welcome.
They seem to have more security then bell service personnel.
Our room was facing a wonderful view of the sea, but just 50 meters away from the air con water cooler, you have this annoying humming noise when you open the window to enjoy the breeze. The sound of the calming waves is drown out by the irritating noise for all there full days. We did not get to enjoy the sea breeze from our room balcony.
The room amenities was bare minimum, save for two tiny bottle of shampoo and shower gel, and a match box size poor quality soap. One set of bath and hand towels ie X 2 persons, floor towel; that's it!
Bath tubs was stained badly, the shower head was of cheap plastic quality.
The room had musky stale smell, there no bed protector; so it's just the single bed sheet and the bed. Not too 'hygienic' it just means any stains would just sit there waiting for the next 'guest'.
The pillows are probably from the opening of the hotel, they are flat and lifeless. Mattress was also limp, no support. If you have back ache this would aggravate it.
The staff are generally pleasant, given the poor facilities there is only so much a pleasant smile can do.
We took the massage to get into the resort feeling; it was really below par, not to mention the brochure was misleading with the discount.
The hotel has so much potential with sprawling grounds, wonderful beach and views. Sadly management or owners take things for granted.
For similar and lower rate charges I have stayed in hotels in KL, Penang with far superior infrastructure and generally more welcome as paying good money guests. Hugely disappointed, probably give Kuching resort hotels a bad name.

lovely beach resort hotel
lovely beach resort hotel, low rise. we stayed with 2 adults and 2 children 12 and 14 years in a superior poolside room. very large room with one king bed and 2 sofa single beds.
beautiful full buffet breakfast.
this hotel is a long way from the airport and from kuching city. it is more for a stay put beach resort holiday. the sarawak cultural village is a short walk away and was very interesting.
the hotel was full with families with young children,
we also stayed in kuching city, bako national park and had a night with the iban tribe.
coming from australia i would not recommend a long stay at this hotel, as i think there are other beach resort areas nicer, although we loved our visit to sarawak and enjoyed our couple of days at damai beach resort relaxing after our adventures.
go visit the sarawak cultural centre, just a short walk from the hotel.

Good hotel but closed beach
Spacious and well maintained
when we arrived, there was ample parking space. reception while checking in was good. room was spacious and well maintained. it would have been good if there is free wifi. throughout our stay, the beach was closed. we should have been informed of the weather or rough sea season before we make our bookings so that we do not feel so disappointed. we shop for souveneirs, kek lapis and terubok masin at kuching city which was about 45 minutes normal drive. the best thing about the trip was the sarawak cultural village which was very near to the hotel. perhaps the hotel can arrange discounts to the entrance fees for the benefit of its customers.
Try lobster at hotel resaurant.
