Don Muang / Impact

Don Muang Airport was once one of Southeast Asia’s most important international gateways. That distinction was handed over to Suvarnabhumi Airport in 2006, but airport hotels in Don Muang are still widespread. They offer great value for money and are especially convenient for anyone using the airport for a domestic connection. Hotels cater to domestic tourists flying with Nok Air or One-Two-Go Airlines.

Impact Muangthong Thani is an exhibition center west of the airport on the Udon Ratthaya Expressway. It was especially popular when Don Muang still operated international flights and continues to host trade fairs and concerts from time to time. Soaring condominiums in the area house mainly house who work nearby.

Another site to explore is the Royal Thai Air Museum, with its collection of vintage aircraft dating to the early 20th century. The military presence contributed a pair of golf courses in the area. There’s also a theme park called Dream World in the Don Muang / Impact area.

Major expressways passing through Don Muang and Impact connect Bangkok to northern provinces in Thailand. South of Don Muang is Mo Chit, the northern bus terminal. It connects to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Isaan and Ayutthaya.

While this area is not as busy as it once was, thanks to the new international airport, it still receives its share of visitors. The number of hotels in Dong Muang and Impact is surprising, especially for those who didn’t visit Bangkok before the airport changeover. Local hotels are spacious and well-kempt. Great value-for-money deals are available to tourists who don’t mind taking a taxi into the city center.
