Very nice resort in the Nungwi region of Zanzibar

Amenities, service, location
We had a very enjoyable stay at the DoubleTree Nungwi. The staff there is excellent, and the amenities are varied to serve people of all ages and interests. We have a three year old son and he enjoyed the pool, and when the tide rolled out, the tidepools were excellent entertainment. The breakfast was terrific - many options, though I mostly just loved having bacon! I would venture out and try other restaurants however, as the food is quite expensive if you don't do an all inclusive (which I wouldn't anyway). The Baraka Beach Restaurant was our favorite choice off site. All in all en enjoyable stay.

Perfect location and greeat staff

Location, friendly staff, infraestructure
Our stay was perfect. Clean and friendly staff (specially stanislaus from the front desk was really helpful). The hotel confitions are excellent and the rooms very clean. The only problem was that we arrenged a transfer from the airport but it did not appear so we had to take a taxi (anybody in the hotel gave us any solution after that). Also, the prices of the restaurants inside the hotel are crazy! Really expensive. It is better to walk around 2 or 5 minutes in the beach and you can find best quality restaurants and prices.

Nice All-in Resort

clean, safe, quiet
It's a beautiful resort. Aimed at couples I would say. Not much to do outside of the resort (if you can find a way out).

An outdated property with wonderful staff & locale

Staff, locale, pool
Our stay was fine. The rooms need serious updating and cleaning. We were assaulted by a toxic smell upon entering the room. My guess it was the noxious cleaning agents and mosquito repellants used before we arrived. The linen had a faint mildew smell. The buffet restaurant was attacked by hordes of flies. The staff were ever so helpful and apologetic as they explained the influx of flies was due to the rainy season. They did their best with the hand they were dealt, but I was still disgusted by seeing so many flies in, around, and on the food. The pool and fitness equipment - along with the wonderful staff - were saving graces for this place. If they update the property and it isn't rainy season, I'd definitely return.

beach view great, but location is horrible.

pool, beach view, can't find a 3rd good thing...
Really far away from the aorport 1 and half hrs driving, they charge 70$ for pick up. And we had to wait for the room to be ready about 1 h, even though the reservation was made almost 1 month in advance. Not impressed at all... It doesn't look like any othe Hilton I've stayed in before, overrated would be the perfect word. Furniture is old and the pillows smells disgusting, even after changing the cover many times, we just couldn't use it. Staff are pretty slow in everything, some were nice though. They have alot of weird rules like: not allowed to stay on the sand area during night (even thought they have guards patrolling) or if you have a visitor, just to go to the room , the visitor has to pay 50$ ... Wow! Not like you get an extra person staying over...but juat because enters yourroom! Lol Overall, i wouldn't suggest or choose again this place. There are few other hotels nearby that were looking really nice from the beach side, check it out! :)

American resort in African village

- great location, quick service when something need to be fixed, safe
We lengthened our stay coz we liked the easy-going atmosphere. It seemed a hell of a job to keep a hotel running accordingly Western standards. They manage but not enough at the swimmingpool and the roomservice. Their service is not efficiënt (unattractive, slow and with mistakes).

A litlle bit disappointed

Location is great , beautiful beach , great staff
Nungwi is the best location in Zanzibar . The private beach is awesome. Food of the hotel could be more improved for Hilton hotel. The rooms are very humids and bed not comfortable at all. The hotel is a bit old some renovations have to be done. The staff is very friendly and helpful
