nice bar area but rooms are basic

bar area
We usually carry our luggage ourselves but given we decided to have valet parking we;d get them to deliver the bags to our room. It was getting late and we couldn't wait much longer for the bag so we left the room hoping to find them there when we got back. No, they weren't. Supposedly we need to be there to take delivery of the bags but I think this has more to do with tipping (though we did tip them in advance). This hotel is huge and it looks like something out of the shining when so many corridors. Despite having so many rooms we were still put on a floor under construction work that started at 8.30am (I'm on holidays!!) and housekeeping knocked on the door at 8.45am. Needless to say I wasn't happy. Whilst checking the room for any forgotten items i noticed that the duvet didn't have a cover as i could see it's care instructions poking out from between the mattresses. The main bar and sitting area is gorgeous but it's pretty basic in every other way.

dingy hotel, management not on top of things.

promximity to metrolink, the arch, and cardinals stadium
do not stay here. when i arrived, i immediately requested to be put in a quiet room away from the hard rock cafe on the street level (as per other travelers' recommendation). my request was accommodated and i was sent to my room. when i arrived in the room, it was obvious the bathroom had not been cleaned or serviced. used towels were hanging, used shower sundries were in the shower, and no new toiletries were available. the trash had not been emptied. i called housekeeping, and to their credit, they sent someone right away. at this point it was late at night and i just wanted to be by myself and go to sleep, but it took several steps for me to get everything i needed to be comfortable. at one point during the afternoon of my stay, the fire alarm went off while i was trying to take a nap. only after the initial shock was there an announcement about some sort of fire alarm testing. the hotel is huge and dingy, badly in need of an upgrade. the one positive thing i will say is that the staff, primarily the bell hops and housekeeping, are very friendly. not sure what other hotel options exist in that immediate area of st. louis, but i don't think the doubletree was worth the price. and certainly not what i would expect from a doubletree.
