Hidden Gem
Staff, location, food and drink.
Comfortable relaxed and informal. Lovely find in a headdy mix of hotels. Will always stay here now if in Brighton. The best breakfast in town. We did not have the opportunity to dine but will do so next time we visit.

Maybe I'm too picky....
Location opposite the beach, quick check-in (even if it's at the bar!!!), proximity to The Lanes.
I may be too picky, but the room was tiny, looked out to housing commission flats, had a wet room shower over the toilet and is without a lift. We read many reviews on this property and assumed it was quite special, perhaps it was in the 90's, it's not now. Sorry to be harsh, but it's true. I felt like any number of saucy romps had occurred in our tiny room, as evidenced by the handprints on the bed-head and mirrored surfaces throughout the space. The wet-room shower over the toilet was not described on the website, so quite some surprise on check-in. Speaking of check-in, you do so at the bar, the dated 90's bar, resplendent with vinyl, dated, deteriorating chairs and matching chintzy decor. This may be one of the better hotels in Brighton, or so we were led to believe, which is a sad state of affairs for Brighton. Really, the worst value for money I have paid in accommodation, probably ever. If you are looking for boutique, this is not the right option, stay in a large chain and get better value. Sorry Drakes, you need a renovation, urgently, and a little more honesty on your website, it's quite misleading. On the positive, nice robes, slippers, toiletries and tea/coffee facilities.
