Terrible Hotel in the middle of the jungle

Elephant Gate Hotel
Far from town, right in the middle of the jungle, with dirty rooms, and poor breakfast. Also, all the villas and rooms were runned down and old. Bathrooms inside all the rooms were in open air designed. That is very dangerous in terms of security and privacy. Anyone could have easily entered our rooms or villa from the open air bathrooms.

Most misarable night of our lives, left aspossible

Bad ,horrible,unsafe,.taste of hell.

Comfortable and convenient to sights

Good Sri Lankan food, genuine experience of living close to the forest. Sound of nocturnal insects and birds close up, plus occasional cannon sound for wading off elephants. Also frogs in the shower
Enjoyed staying here and happy to recommend to friends who are nature friendly. Also suitable only if you have your own transport.

A very interesting eco experience.

Open spaces, good service, natural environment
A little hard to find, and may be difficult in the wet season but a peaceful, natural environment.

The hotel we should stay several days

Quiet nature was there.
The hotel is located in a remote area from Dambulla, but it can not be an inferior factor but an excellent point. We stayed in 3-bedroom-cottage and felt as if we were at home. Hospitality of employees are very good which made us happy to stay. It is not our style to have dinner at hotel, however since we arrived in the late evening and the hotel is located in a remote area, we tried a course menu at the restaurant. We were really satisfied of excellent Slilankan dishes. Only one my request is to install refrigerator in the cottage. If we have been able to get plenty of ice cubes, then we don't need anything more.
Hotel Feature Tip: The hotel has now only two cottages but one shall be added soon. The hotel is good for family trip and I would like to suggest to stay at least a couple of days.

Very special hotel, like living in the jungle

best features
If you want to experience staying in the jungle, just come to thie hotel. The structure is well-designed by glass and woods. The manager is good at serving guests. When we had breakfast in a small hut, that's lovely. The breakfast is so yummy and rich. However, it's far away from Dambulla city, you have to cost some hundred Rupees by Tutu to drive you here, but it's worthy. No hot shower because of nature.

Minimalist and Stylish, Designed by Italian

Surrounded by Nature and Spacious
this hotel is situated in between sirigiya and dambulla and i was glad to have chosen a night to stay for my day trip to both places. it wasn't hard to find, just ask the locals if your driver is not sure and they'll point you to it. the price is really a good steal for the comfort and design of this hotel. i have a great sleep, surrounded in nature, fresh air, no mosquitoes bites at all (net is provided), sound of nocturnal creatures yet not noisy. the breakfast was ok, i like the herbal porridge. the manager and staff are really eager to serve you. ask him to show you the biggest villa with 3 rooms, it can earn any design award in sri lanka. only downside is no wifi in the room (internet connection at the big villa). flat screen tv not much choice too. but who needs those when you are surrounded with nature and a huge comfortable bed. easily one of my best hotel in sri lanka.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: You can do Sirigiya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple in a day. I don't think doing Polonuruwa and Sirigiya is possible as Polonuruwa will take 1 full day if you have a driver.

Nature oriented accomodation

Good value for money
the place was very quiet when we were there - i dont think there was anyone else there, which meant that the service was particularly attentive. food was good- authentic sri lankan fare. rooms were "open air" and therefore had no air con, but they were very clean and modern.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Sigiyria rock is not far

Tranquil and simple

Price, Great Authentic Food
The theme of elephant gate hotel is tranquility and wild life. We did not go looking for wildlife as we used the hotel more as a rest stop than a destination. All in all it was a nice place, with a good chef, however the lack of hot water and alcohol is annoying, however the latter conflicts with the resorts theme.
Hotel Feature Tip: No alcohol
