Delightful cruise on a beautifully finished boat

The kindness and attentiveness of the staff; the thoughtful, well organised activities; the quality of the boat's condition and appearance.
I thoroughly enjoyed my two-night stay on the Emeraude. Yes, it was pricey, but a real treat nonetheless. My husband was quite ill with the 'flu during our trip, and the staff went out of their way to ensure he was comfortable, ensuring he was well stocked with cold remedies and cups of hot tea. The instructors from Asian Adventures, who ran the rock climbing and kayaking excursions, were also very professional, and I felt in safe hands with them. My only gripe is that we had to pay for soft drinks and water while on the boat; I'd assumed this would be included in the cost.

Wonderful cruising

Nice view, Staff, Good rest
We have a very nice stay with Emeraude. The best thing I might say is the staff: very friendly and helpful. The room was small and not very comfortable but I think we cannot expect more on a cruise, no TV and no internet as well. But you can take your time to enjoy the amazing scenery of Halong Bay.

Having been on a few different cruises of Halong Bay, this time with my spouse, decided to go "Luxury" this time. However, it was really anything but. Beds hard as a rock. Toilet didn't flush (for 2 nights/3 days). Food pretty much repeated 2nd night with little variation. No hot water for showers for 2 nights/3 days). Not exactly what you'd call "luxury" in my opinion. Unlike almost all other Halong Bay cruises, they charge extra for transport to the pier from Hanoi. OK Fine. But just an uncomfortable mini van like all the rest. The worst crime of all, charging QUADRUPLE of what a beer would cost on land. Is there no end to their greed? How about just DOUBLE?!?!? Weird mixture of not-very-well-prepared "French" and Vietnamese foods. Stick to one and put more care into the dishes. The canapes were a joke. Almost an insult in their poor, soggyness. Sad.

World class scenic attraction

Boat was well maintained, well presented and staff were proficient at there jobs.
We went from Hanoi to Halong Bay in the companies mini bus. Driver was very good but road conditions were very poor. Major and minor road works seemed to be on the whole stretch of road. Boat and cruise were very good. The journey and staff were very structured which is important with so many people visiting the area. Noise from engine would interrupt most peoples sleeping but not to much of a problem for one night. Scenery is very good but have concerns for pollution and the looking after of this world heritage area. The road network will improve as work is finished but the large amount of tourism development and industrial development without adequate control on the associated pollution puts the whole area at risk. Industrial boat traffic should be kept out of this area. We went just after TET so it was not at the height of tourism season. Not sure I would like to visit in the really busy time with sheer number of tourist in a small area.
