Really nice location with bus or taxi but not that close to the shuttle ferry to Hallstatt station. But as you know, Hallstatt is such small town that you can reach the ferry stop in 10 minutes by walk.
The room was really clean and bed was comfortable.

The hotel is very close to bus stop and very convenient to travel to tourist attraction places.

we have a good time in hallstatt. it is very easy to get to the hotel, especially by bus. the hotel personnel is helpful. breakfast is good. however, the room is small and not convenient. taking the bus in front of the hotel to dachstein salzkammergut is very easy and recommended for those who love mountain summit. travelling by train to hallstatt will have to take a boat crossing the lake to the hotel.

A standard small hotel

We had stayed 1 night in Gasthof Bergfried and booked a superior room with balcony. The main advantages are clean room and very close to bus station. What else? Don't expect too much! There is no wifi and no lakeview even though you have booked a superior room. By the way, Hallstatt is a very small town and you can easily walk through everywhere from one of the hotel in this town.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Please don't miss to visit Dachstein. It is a place worth you to stay a half day.

Perfect location and great service

this was a real surprise packet for us as we only booked it the previous evening. it is located a short walk to the town and right underneath the salt mine, with the funicular railway close behind it. nothing is far away.
we were greeted enthusiastically and made very welcome. the room was large, and although a little outdated, it was perfectly suited to our needs. the breakfast was one of the best we had experienced on our travels through austria and slovenia. it was obvious that this place is popular for both families and skiiers.
be aware that you need to pay in cash as no credit card facilities exist, but at €66 a night that is not difficult.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
you can take a ferry across to the other side of the lake in halstatt and explore the vast number of hiking trails. you can alo catch a train to/from halstatt on the other side. a return journey on the ferry was less that €5 per person.

Very nice hotel with a few quirks

this was a nice hotel with extremely friendly and energetic staff. the rooms were clean, and were accompanied by a nice bathroom also. the breakfast that was included was a nice touch, and in general, the atmosphere was very homey.
i have one gripe with the hotel and unfortunately it's a big one. i haven't stayed at other gasthofs in the town, so i don't know if this is standard, but there was no internet, period. first, this should be made clear on agoda before a customer decides to book. second, this makes no sense, because obviously the staff would be using internet to track online bookings. also, this is the 21st century, so please, get with the program. this was a surprise that took away from an otherwise nice experience.

the room is big but should have provided more facilities, e.g. fridge and hair dryer.
the hotel is located 700 meters away from the main ship station but since the town is small so everything is easily reached from the hotel.
breakfast is nice but quite less variety. the staff members are helpful though.
Restaurant Tip:
There is a nice restaurant where it used to be a salt manufacturing.
