As good as could be expected
Location, location, location
6.3
We were extremely pleased with the location of this hotel as it is downtown in the middle of Burgas' shopping district. It is a short walk to some great restaurants and shops where dining is cheap and delicious!
We booked a standard double room at the Plaza and were pleased with the size of the room. It was very large and offered ample space for luggage etc. We also enjoyed having a mini fridge and a couple of english channels on the TV. The cleanliness was good but there were a couple of items that needed attention. There was a hole in the wall of our room's bathroom with exposed water pipes and some of the fixtures (including the bathroom door handle) needed to be tightened or adjusted.
Despite all of these great features, the hotel left a bad taste in our mouth due to the attitude of its staff and over all customer service. Every time we approached the front desk with a question or request, we were told "no". They were not accommodating and certainly didn't seem like they cared if they were! For example, we were told that it was not possible to have 2 pairs of jeans washed and returned to us within a 2 day period. We also requested a late checkout (2pm instead of 12pm) and were told that we would have to pay for the room again. We had a flight at 7pm and the weather was pouring rain outside so we were very upset that we had to take our bags and leave the room, especially when there were only 4 other rooms occupied in the ENTIRE hotel according to the front desk staff! There was no option for us to even take our bags to a shopping centre as they are all outdoor.
One final note, breakfast was HORRIFIC. Stale bread, disgusting tasting cheese, bruised fruit, dry/plain granola and watered down juice. Not even worth it!
In our opinion, this is not the way to treat a guest if you want to build your hotels reputation and encourage tourism. We had only one choice for a flight time and it happened to be at 7pm - their perogative though.
Restaurant Tip:
There are a lot of great restaurants in the area to choose from. We had no problem finding a great meal and cheap drinks!
Be sure to review your bill carefully. EVERY SINGLE TIME we received our bill, the prices of our food had been changed, there were extra items added or it was added up wrong. When we confronted the staff about it we were told "today is new price". This is obviously a scam and we were very displeased to be treated like this during the length of our stay (we found this throughout Bulgaria). Watch your pennies!
