Hirschgasse Hotel Heidelberg Info

This enchanting and picturesque historical landmark is the oldest building poetically seated in Heidelberg, Germanys oldest seat of learning.Take a healthy walk to the centre of town and stroll around the oldest university in Germany with its amazing Old Assembly Hall. or have a look into the Studentenkarzer (former students jail). The rooms walls are full of inscriptions and drawings, making it one of the most visited sights in Heidelberg where one in every five of the population is a student creating an energetic and exciting atmosphere.Named after student dueling associations, the Mensurstube restaurant has hosted celebrities like Count Bismark who is said to have carved his name into a 200 year old table there. Once a tavern where university students indulged in fencing duels, its mentioned in Mark Twains A Tramp Abroad. After a day out, dont miss Le Gourmet, which features elegant French cuisine served by candlelight.

The hotel is charming and romantic. You had to walk about 10 minutes to arrive into the city (across the footbridge), it was an easy walk. There are many restaurants and shops after you cross the footbridge. We enjoyed being a little way out of town and in the quiet residential area. The restaurant seemed to be very popular with local residents.
