Execllent value for money. Located next to subway station. Free wifi in room. Cheerful and friendly staff.
No coffee/tea making appliance in room.
We enjoyed our stay at Apollo Hotel. Couldn't find much fault at all. Staff were cheerful and friendly, rooms were made up daily without fail, towels were changed daily. Wifi was reliable. The balcony of our room had a distant view of the Acropolis so we were really pleased.
We liked the breakfast at the coffeeshouse - it was simple fare but fresh and easy on the palate. The coffeehouse staff were very efficient.
The windy rooftop restaurant has a view of the Acropolis, was reasonably priced and a credit despite it being a solo-run outfit. The beef souvlaki kebab is a must-try.
Hotel is located along Achilleos - a busy road leading to a major traffic intersection (Karaiskaki Square). We suppose the noise from the traffic may affect some guests, especially those staying on the lower floors, but it wasn't a problem for us at all - we are out most of the day anyway and by the time we got back to the hotel at night, traffic has lessened considerably and by the time we hit the sheets we are too tired and already snoozing to be bothered by noise of any kind.
Hotel is also located very near the Metaxourghio subway station = less than 3 minutes walk. However we wouldn't say the hotel is situated in a good location - the surrounding areas are pretty dead and especially so at night, nothing to see, nothing to do, nothing to eat! The right description would be that this hotel is CONVENIENTLY LOCATED (ie. next to the subway station).
For the budget-conscious traveller craving the basic comforts of a decent hotel in central Athens, the Apollo is your answer.
Hotel Feature Tip : For those arriving at Metaxourghio subway station with lots of luggage, when exiting the station, do not use the 'Karaiskaki Square' exit as it has only a long, long flight of stairs up to the main street. Choose the other exit instead, take the lift up, then cross the road to the other side of the intersection (where you would have ended up had you taken the Karaiskaki exit). It's much easier and convenient this way.
Directly opposite the hotel there is an eatery selling sandwiches, cakes and beverages - closes at 2200hrs.
Cheap coffee can be found at a small Greek cafeteria just behind the hotel.

Great location. Very close to the metro station.
Amazing view from the hotel restaurant.
Rooms too small! I could hardly fit two bags
The hotel has an excellent location - a couple of blocks away from a metro station - and the view from the restaurant is absolutely astonishing. The people are reception are also friendly.
The con is the size of the rooms. They are well under the average room size from the hotels of the same price range.
