Great hostel, pity it calls itself a hotel

This hotel is handily located for going and seeing Geysir and the Gulfoss waterfall. The town of Laugarvatn has its own naturally heated hot pool and sauna, and a very decent restaurant (the Linden), but not much else to it's name.
The hotel was clearly once a school. The main building even still smells somehow like a school! The other accommodation buildings very much appeared to be dorms for the school, which have been repainted but are pretty much still dorm rooms.
The heating worked, the hot water was hot. The beds were firm. But that is about the extent of it. You are in an old school dorm, without any attempts to decorate it or make it more homely or interesting.
I stayed in a hotel in Iceland, a guesthouse, a B&B and a hostel, and frankly the hostel offered the most actual comfort and by far the best price.
If you can get a good deal on the room, by all means stay at the Edda, but frankly I felt I paid too much, even in Icelandic terms.
Restaurant Tip:
Do go and eat at the restaurant Lindin. They have both a reasonably affordable bistrot and a very lovely restaurant. I highly recommend it.
