Dublin
Green, rolling hills, old-fashioned pubs and castles rich in history—these things come to mind when one thinks about Ireland…well these and Guinness of course. Dublin, the thriving capital city of Ireland, offers all that and much, much more. One of Europe’s most popular destinations these days, the city combines tradition, culture and natural beauty with some of the best Irish accommodations to experience it all.
Some of Dublin’s top sights include the almost-500-year-old Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, the lively O’ Connell Street and the essential Guinness Storehouse. Dublin Tour Hop On–Hop Off bus stops at all of the city’s major tourist attractions and gives visitors a good idea of the layout of the city. The National Museum of Archaeology on Kildare Street and the National Museum of Decorative Arts and History in Collins Barracks should not be missed. And there is also the Bram Stoker Museum for some chills and perhaps a bite.
Though public transportation in Dublin has improved immensely in the last few years, it is still worse than many other European cities. Fortunately most of the city center can be traversed on foot and taxis are available when needed. Hotels in Dublin are as varied as the city itself. Choices range from laid-back hostels perfect for making new friends to five-star Dublin hotels offering the ultimate in luxury and modern convenience. Dublin B&B’s are aplenty for that feeling of home, while alternate budget accommodations can be found in the form of guest houses and campus accommodations.
