Set on the banks of the Arno River, the historic Principe Hotel is a mere 15 minute stroll to the city’s landmark attractions. The Bronzi family, hoteliers since 1890, bought the villa in 1950 from the Countess Galletti di Sant'Ippolito and transformed it into an elegant 20 room boutique category hotel run in the family style. The villa maintains its period charm by retaining its original floors, ceiling, and grand staircase to the 2nd floor, while incorporating a modern elevator and new private bathrooms. Most rooms have a private terrace for charming views of the Arno River or the villas own gardens. Modern Florence with old world grace!
From July 1st the City of Florence will introduce the tourism tax, applied to non-residents overnight staying, for a maximum of 10 consecutive nights. I picked this place based on good reviews and wasn't disappointed. Principe was a very classy hotel with the best breakfast of any of the hotels we stayed in during our trip to Italy. The only minor downside to the place was the poor sound insulation between rooms.

Old World Charm in a Great Location
Close to everything, but just far away enough from the tourists to make it peaceful

the principe hotel is located close to the santa maria novella train station and is convenient to all the tourist and shopping locations in florence. the hotel retains its old world flavor with large rooms, balconies and all the amenities you wouild find in a branded hotel. the daily breakfast was great with eggs cooked to order and hot coffee made fresh by the wait staff. it was a great way to start the day. my only pet peev is that the tv had only italian channels (okay i was in italy). it would have been nice to have cnn or bbc world news so we could find out what was happening in the world. other than this little quirk, i highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again if i have the chance to go back to florence.
Hotel Feature Tip:
If you have been travelling for some time and need your laundry done, there is a laundromat around the corner from the hotel about 200 meters away.
