very close to train station

only stayed here for one night. decent overnight stay if wanting to travel into cinque terre. There is a decent breakfast provided as well. the elevator is a bit cramped. the rooms are a bit small but quite nice and tidy inside. not complaining too much because we were all in the one room and good enough for this 3 stars hotel. will come back again.

Lovely hotel with great location

We like the fact that the hotel is located very near the train station. Google map gives a longer route so don't follow its directions. When you come out from La Spezia station, with your back facing the station, look out for an elevator (not accessible at late night). It'll bring you to street level and you'll see Hotel Mary across the road on your left. There's also another staircase further down the road which is accessible at all times. The hotel has an elevator so we didn't have to carry our luggages up the stairs. The hotel staffs were helpful and provided us with map and train schedule (may not be up to date as the train was not available at certain timings and we ended up waiting at the station for more than an hour). Our room looked new and nice while the bathroom was clean with hot shower. Breakfast was decent with sufficient variety of food. We were rather pleased with our stay here.
Travel tip:
Check at the park information counter whether the paths between villages are open before buying the Cinque Terre basic or train card. The path between Riomaggiore and Manarola (20 minute walk) is free for access after 7 or 8pm.
Try the gelato at 5 Terre gelateria in Manarola. We love the pistachio flavour-best we've tasted in Italy.

Mary hotel has small,clean rooms that have all the basic requirements for a family stay or for a single.
I travelled with a family of four who had a family room, whilst I opted for the larger sized single,which had a double bed. The beds are comfortable and warm, very important when traveling in winter time. The breakfast had a good selection, which is always good when traveling with hungry teenagers.
Great base from which to see the Cinque Terra from.

Very reasonable price, yet good location, clean, cozy and friendly service. Anyway, English is not popular around the area so bringing the dictionary or practicing hand language would help. Breakfast is great except for coffee.
Shopping Tip:
Supermarket is 1 block away on the right facing out the street.

The hotel was very close to the railway station enabling very convenient travel to the Cinque Terre towns using the Cinque Terre Card-the primary reason for our visit to the region and choosing this hotel. The breakfast was good offering a hot breakfast with tea, coffee and juices. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

We were pleasantly surprised with our stay. From the outside and looking at it's proximity to the railway station we thought it would be noisy. We had a room at the back overlooking rooftops, church bell towers and mountains. Room was comfortable, good shower, clean and surprisingly quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful (troubleshooted and got the wifi working when temporarily not working). Breakfast was basic but adequate (not the worlds best coffee but tea was great). Great location on arrival (not far to drag the suitcases) and also easy and quick access to Cinque Terre (at a fraction of the price of staying on the Cinque Terre). Also close to cafes, bars and restaurants. Less than 10 mins by train and you're there, stunning part of the world. Dont expect 5 star but really good value - would recommend it.
